Yet another scheduling question

I have been reading the help and forum posts for a couple hours now and I think I am even more confused than before :-( .

My Sereno:
We have a one night event coming up that will last for 4 hours.
I have made 10-12 presentations that will play throughout the event (loop)
I need one presentation to play at a specific time for a specific duration (Auction Time Presentation) then the others to resume and keep looping.

The scheduling docs say "The Timeline and Distribution for the Playlist works within the scope of the Timeline and Distribution for the Schedule."

So to accomplish what I want I would set the Schedule for the event date and the 4 hour duration and then set the specific time and duration for "Auction Time Presentation" in the presentation its self with the rest of the presentations set to timeline always and play until done?

This doesn't seem to work, when I preview,  the "Auction Time Presentation" seems to start early and just repeat with the rest of them when it comes up in the cycle again.

Can someone help me get my head around this?

Thank You!

Hi Scott,
If you are previewing you will notice that it does not follow the scheduled settings. This is to allow you to see what the content looks like. Are you able to allocate a live Display to test out your schedule?

Let us know,

Well That explains a lot, Thank You! My head was getting sore from banging it on the wall :-).

So the way I have it set up is basically right?

No, I do not yet have a media player. I have been waiting for support@thebookpc.com to answer a couple simple questions (like delivery time) I have sent them two separate emails with no response which now makes me wonder if they would respond if I needed technical support. I may give up and just try to source a NUC elsewhere and install the player app myself, I've been holding off on that because I assume Rise gets a little commission from player sales and I want to support you if possible.

Thank You Hanna!

Hi Scott,
Sorry about that. I've just emailed The Book PC with a link to this thread in case they may have missed your emails.

Do you have the name of the Presentation and/or Schedule that you are working on and I can take a look.

You can test with a dedicated PC as long as it has Windows or Linux. You can download the player at https://help.risevision.com/user/crea... and link to your test Schedule
Make sure to exit my pressing [CTRL+SHIFT+Q]
And once you have finished testing and/or the media device has arrived you can uninstall Rise Player from that test machine

Thanks! I can see that you have a duration and timeline already set for AUCTIONTIME only and the rest just need to have the duration set. But yes it would be a good idea to have a test Display set up to see how it all looks.

Coming back to this, trying to get it clear in my mind how it actually works.
I have a schedule with 12 presentations.
If all are set to PUD but then I want a couple of them to play at precise times, say one at 8:00 and 1 at 10:00 can't that be done?

Does setting the presentation play time actually cause it to play at that precise time, OR, does it just play at that precise time if one of the other PUD presentations are not already playing?

In my case I have 12 presentations that I want to just play one after another PUD. BUT I'm going to have a few more that I want to play at precise times.

Thank you

Hi Scott,
We have a write up about Play Until Done in Schedules at https://community.risevision.com/rise... - including an example of how it is utilized.

Scott,

If they are set to PUD, they will not adhere to a specific time. Instead, they will complete and move to the next Schedule item when the Play Until Done Placeholder in that presentation has completed all of its content.

If you have one Presentation as PUD, and another that starts at 12 pm, the PUD one will finish before the one set to start at 12 will start. Depending on the content in that PUD Presentation, it may start a bit later than 12.

My suggestion for those 12 Presentations would be to have the ones you want to play for specific times to use a specific start and stop time. For example all Presentations you want from 5 am - 12 pm, have them all play for 60 seconds each (or whatever you prefer), from 5 - 12. Then the next ones start at 12 - 5, and they play for 60 seconds, and so on as you see ft. So an example would be:

Presentation 1: 5 am - 12 pm Plays for 60 seconds
Presentation 2: 5 am - 12 pm Plays for 60 seconds
Presentation 3: 12 pm - 5 pm Plays for 60 seconds
Presentation 4: 12 pm - 5 pm Plays for 60 seconds

This way, the longest you're ever going to wait is 60 seconds before the Presentation comes on the screen.

Does that help?

Thanks!

@Robb, If a presentation plays for 60 secs the first time, does it continue where it left off when it comes around again?

I'm thinking slide shows (images) and google sheets (scrolling)

Thanks Rob

Scott,

When showing pictures or videos with the Video or Image Widgets, that is an option in the Widget itself:

I'm not aware of a way to do it with Google Slides or Spreadsheets.

Thanks I think I understand it now, I thought that a presentation with a time set on the timeline would play at that time/become active no matter what. Not the case, I will have to re-think how to set this up. Seems almost backwards to me that I will need to time the length and schedule each one instead of having one just overtake the display at a scheduled time, but I'm new to this (as you can tell).

Any way to combine several presentations into one?

Thank You
Scott

:-) no worries Robb, I will do it manually. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better way.

Feature Request?  seems like there should be a way to send an overriding presentation or alert presentation that would "take over" the display for a set time.

Scott,

Actually, you can send Alerts now! If you go to https://apps.risevision.com/alerts, you can set up Alerts now, using a CAP Service like E2Campus or Rave.

Check out this community conversation for more information on using CAP Alerts: https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/creating-cap-alerts

I hope that helps!

Yea, I know about the emergency alert system, Not quite the same thing and a service is needed. But that does show that it's possible :-)
So what we need now is a way for a user to schedule  "alert" presentation(s)

Thanks!

Interesting idea...so if I understand you, you mean you want the ability to put up a Presentation that says "This is an alert!" that takes over some or all Displays, BUT the difference is all that is controlled within the Rise Platform, and does not rely on a third party CAP service. Do I have that right?

Correct, in my current schedule all the presentations could just be set to PUD if I could schedule an alert to just override at a given time it would be set to play X no of seconds. Then the other would just continue on.
