web page widget not displaying content on player

Hi,
We have a problem that web pages which should be displayed via the web page widget are not displayed anymore on the Rise Vision player.
We use a Ubuntu system, Chrome and the Rise vision extension.

We also updated the Linux system to the latest packages, cleared the Chrome cache and rebooted the system without any help.

Now we simply used an iframe for our webpage and everything works. Of course that means doing zoom and refresh manually but still at least we see something.

The strange thing is in the preview it works but not on the display system.

Any ideas? Already known problem?

Hi Sanjit,

Are these authorized webpages? Do you have to log in to see them?

Thanks! Just ran your Presentation with Linux Player and it worked fine. http://www.screencast.com/t/4UDbuUel

I see you are also using Linux. Can you run you content on our LInux Player and tell me if the page appears for you? You can find the installer and instructions here, https://help.risevision.com/user/create-a-display

hi alan
sorry for letting you wait. as this is only a side project i can't do a lot on it every day.
The content does not show on my linux player but I have no idea what you mean with the website you posted.
We simply installed the chrome extension rise player and i did not call that rise player install script.
Should we use the chrome extension or the install script on linux?

No worries Sanjit.

Yes, instead of using the Chrome Extension can you please use the install script on Linux and let me know if you have the same problem.  You can download it from here http://install-versions.risevision.com/rvplayer-installer.sh

Thanks!

I have the same issue. Same location, same presentation, different floors....it works on one floor, but not on the other. I've tried restarting the player, updating all software, and rebooting the media player...nothing fixes it. My URL loads perfectly in a separate Google Chrome window.  How do I pull the logs again? I was just jumping in the forums to search for that...but saw the relevant thread...and thought I'd post.
Thanks,

Image Widget will check for updated version of an image (as determined by last-modified in the response header) once every 15 minutes.

Give it a try and let me know if you have problems.

Thanks!

Hi Alan,
I've tested this out with the latest Image Widget and content looks to be refreshing within 5 minutes or less. I'll let you know if I come across anything else.
Thanks for your help!

Hi Alan,
Issue #2 is solved by the latest Image Widget.

I can test Issue #3 tomorrow after business hours and see if we still have the playback issue we had last weekend with the Web Page Widget. The customer experiencing the issue was moved over to the old webpage gadget.

@Sanjit Roopra have you had any resolution to your issue?

Thank you,
Joe Kirchner

Hi Alan,
I'm still experiencing issues when using the default Web Page Widget. The issue today was a little different than the missing web page all together that Sanjit and I originally experienced. This one falls into the refreshing category.

We have an application that produces a URL displaying a datafile. At one location we have 4 separate Web Page Widgets on 2 media players, all calling different URL's from our application. None of them were refreshed properly with today's data.

Our application refreshes content by sending an AJAX requests every x seconds, where x is the refresh rate that we set. The AJAX requests are are made with Javascript, so they don't cause the page to refresh. The page stays the same, but the javascript is sending requests to the server asking for updated information.

My Rise Presentation is setup to not contain a set Refresh Interval, since we are doing that on our applications end. Hopefully this is enough information for you to take a look over.

Thank you,
Joe Kirchner

Hi Alan,
I've done some thorough testing with Issue #1 above
First, what I'm noticing is that the Web Page Widget blinks a black "loading..." screen prior to displaying a Google Slide URL. This doesn't occur every time, but over 50% of the time...this may play into the second problem. I also noticed that the refresh interval for the new Web Page Widget doesn't play any affect when updating my Google Slides. For example, if a refresh interval is set at 30min, and I update my Google Slides, it updates on the Web Page Widget within 1-5min. The third issue I'm seeing is the Fade Transition doesn't seem to work as well on the new Web Page Widget.

With the old Web Page Gadget, refresh interval behaves correctly, the black loading screen occurs much quicker and only during refresh intervals, and the Fade Transition looks great. It appears the old web page gadget refreshes all placeholders at the interval set, regardless of whether it's currently displaying or not. So only one Google Slide will be seen refreshing, where the others refresh in the background of the placeholder, unnoticed.

My presentation:http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer.html?type=presentation&id=97d51bac-d1a8-422e-8ed0-fc7b5a6aa...

Thanks for your continued support!

P.S. - I am going to thoroughly test Issue #3 from above soon and should have a follow up report on that.

Thanks for the info Joe. I'll take a look and see if I can replicate and will get back to you by end of day tomorrow.

UPDATE: Joe, I'm don't ever see a  "loading..." message, but I do see what you are talking about in how the transition behaves differently. I've added this to our backlog and will look into it once we start on the Web Page Widget.

Thanks for taking a look at this Alan. The Loading screen is there, just very briefly. It can't have anything to do with your connection, I am using the CAP version...so perhaps there is some difference there. I've uploaded a video of the test presentation I sent above which contains some additional, Rise Vision employee placeholder's. At 0:09 and 0:19 you will see the Loading... text that I mention. On the new Widget, it occurs every time, with the old Gadget, it only occured after a refresh interval.

Also, don't forget to look into the Widget Refresh interval, I believe it's happening every time the Widget plays, which would explain the Loading... text and transition issue. The Gadget refresh interval occurs at what's been set in the configuration.

Thanks for your help,
Joe Kirchner

Hi Alan,
The latest Web Page Widget is still refreshing every play time by default. So the refresh interval doesn't have any effect in the web page reload time....it refreshes every time the Widget is shown. This is causing some playback issues for our Google Slides presentations and also causing our Radar partner to be pinged with quite a few costly API hits. I believe it is also why the black flash and Loading.... message is appearing before every Google Slide Web Page Widget presentation. Is there any update to this issue's status?
Thank you,
Joe Kirchner

Hi Joe, sorry no firm ETA yet on the updated Web Page Widget. Are you okay using the old web page gadget in the interim?

Thanks!

Joe,

Can you try this with the new Web Page Widget and let us know if you are still seeing the issue?

Thanks!

Hi Robb,
Thanks for following through with this one. I tested heavily this morning and the new Web Page Widget appears to be working properly. If I uncheck the "Unload Web Page when not visible in Presentation (recommended)" I no longer see the flash of a black screen with the word "Loading..." in the placeholder. If I do check the Unload box, then the Google Slide page refreshes every time it displays and I see the black loading screen flash.

When unchecking the unload web page and setting a refresh interval, the refresh of the new content was extremely fast, to the point where it felt more like a transition to new content than a refresh, which is all good to see.

Thanks for getting this fixed for me, I've still been on the Classic GUI and am looking forward to learning the new Editor. I'll have to give some feedback to the proper forum.

Thank you again Robb, for the Rise Vision staff's excellent service and commitment!
