Video Widget reproduce video on preview but not on risevision player. Video format is mp4 and comes from media server on Azure.

Error says issue is due to format or encoder.

Please let me know how can I make this work!!.

Thanks!!

What type of player are you using? Is the URL of the video publicly viewable or only from within your network?
Hi Robert,
The video is public and I can see it with no issues with the preview mode on chrome, but not on riseplayer. The player is the video widget, the free content from the repository.

I meant what is the physical playback device. Sorry for the confusion.
No worries, I am using an Asus M004U chromebox.

Hi Rodrigo,

Do you have the ability to run the video through HandBrake?  When I see an error like that, I take my file, convert it using HandBrake and then don't have issues any longer.  Are you familiar with that program?
Hi Ray,

Never heard of it, but I am having a look right now on it. I will let you know my results.

Thanks!
I am not quite sure what was the codec before, but after handbrake and setting codec to H264 the video plays perfectly!

Thanks Ray!

Hi Rodrigo
In addition to Robert's questions, what audio/video codecs are you using to save the video in the MP4 container?

Also I took a look to find the presentation.  Would it have the ID 3cd1a230-8189-4185-a459-4e14dd94531d ?
There is a video located in the widget, which links out to an MP4.  However, in the link there are a series of characters after the .mp4 extension. When I take out these characters up to the .MP4 extension in the link, it's giving me a URL error below:

<Error><Code>ResourceNotFound</Code>
<Message>
The specified resource does not exist. RequestId:8824dc45-0001-00a2-035c-1e4aa4000000 Time:2015-11-13T21:42:47.2937257Z
</Message>
</Error>

I would suggest having a look at the audio/video codec, but also to check that the MP4 is being uploaded and linked correctly on the server.

I also ran your presentation on my player and can see the same message.

Hi HSuarez,

I have followed Ray instruction, I process the video on handbreak with codec H264 and now is reproducing the video with no problems.

Thanks
Still facing issues. After first reproduction well, it fails again. I notice sometimes it plays the video 2 times and then fails, so I am not completely sure of what might be happening.

It'd be good to know what your physical playback device is and what Rise player you're using on it. We've found that even on devices which support hardware MP4 decoding our best bet has been to go to WEBM (VP8) with everything.

Using Chromebox as the RiseVision player connected to a TV screen, we got such kind of issues for some MP4 videos. The videos were correctly displayed using the preview mode on a Windows workstation but failed to render when sent over a schedule to a Chromebox client.

I investigated a bit and I noticed that the problem was not really coming fro RiseVison player but on the Chromebox. Connecting indeed interactively on the Chromebox and running the MP4 from ChromeOS, it did not work. MP4 may have some variants and some may fail from one OS to another one. For instance, videos converted with well known VLC (at least at the time I tested a few month ago) failed to render on Chrome OS while worked perfectly well on Windows.

I stopped my investigation after our DAM (Digital Asset management) provider that is www.keepeek.com found the right MP4 conversion settings for best compatibility across OS'es. So far, Keepeek does not support WebM because this platform is not only used for Signage but for our Intranet & Internet sites and for a special application to broadcast press-releases and medias for press agencies. Since WebM is not really cross platform supported (see W3schools ; IE neither Safari support WebM), we focused on MP4.

Note that I got very good MP4 conversion with FormatFactory that is for free. I don't use Miro Converter because my security settings and anti-virus (Avast) claim that it contains Malware.

Thanks for sharing Thierry
Thank you Thierry for your detailed findings on this issue. Indeed there seems to be some issues for Chrome OS to render some mp4 videos, so far taking the original video and reformatting it to mp4 had worked for me.

I have right now 2 video on the same widget video playing continuously without any issue, refresh and sounds are good.

Hi Rodrgio,
We've just pushed an update for the Video Widget today.  Can you please check if you are still facing the same issue running video on the Display? You may also need to reboot.

Thanks,
Hannah

Hello HSuarez,

Sorry for the absence I've been very busy around. Let me tell you that a conversion to mp4 with handbrake from the original video make a great difference.

I have right now the video widget playing 2 videos continuously without any issues. As Thierry mentioned above it is indeed some sort of rendering issues of chrome os with the mp4 encoder.

Luckily in future updates this will be solved, so far my product is working.

Keep you posted and thank you for the dedication on my issue.

Thanks!

Rodrigo
