Video upload to storage

I'm trying to upload an informational video to the storage space.  It's a 3 minute long animation, it's an .avi file, and it's 12.2 GB in size.  It wont upload.  It just says "upload" for hours but nothing is happening on the progress bar.  Is it too big of a file?  If so, is there a solution?  It's important to me.  Giving people access to this video is really the whole reason I need a digital display in the first place.

Thanks in advance.

Ryan,

That file is enormous! Unfortunately, Rise Storage can't host a file of that size for you at this time. However, if you were to subscribe to Rise Priority Support I believe our support technicians would be able to come up with a solution that will work for you.

Maybe try transcoding it to another format, such as H.264? The compression will result in a smaller file. Also, check your bitrate. It may be higher than the display can take advantage of anyway. Lowering an extremely high bit rate will result in a smaller file size, with little perceived effect on quality, if done correctly.

Ok, thanks. What is the biggest file the storage could handle?

Ryan,

We have had success uploading between the 1gb-4gb range, but it depends on your system and available system resources.

Ryan,

Have you considered changing the video format to .webm? You may have better luck getting a file size that is not as unwieldy. If you're an OSX user, you could use a program like Miro Video Converter to convert your video.

Ryan,

I wanted to let you know that we've pushed a change to storage that allows files of all sizes to be uploaded. Keep in mind that display performance may suffer if you choose to use extremely large files due to network and hardware limitations.

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.
I've re-rendered the video in a different format. It's only 3.5GB now. If I have any further issues I'll let you know. Thanks agin for the good news :)
