Hi

The video in the presentation below is not caching but is redownloaded all the time.

The presentation which is just a video, see the link below
http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer....

I am displaying this presentation using MXIII Android Box with Android Kitkat 4.4.2 using My Rise Player App ver 3.0002

Any idea what the problem is? And how to solve it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards
Micke

Micke,

I'm going to shoot an email to the developer of My Rise Player to see if video caching is supported on KitKat. Thanks for the question!

There is several factors that could be causing the issue. One if you have spaces in the name and extra periods other that the extension it will not cache correctly and keep downloading. My next version should fix that issue. Second make sure video is either mp4 or webm. Some play mp4 better while others play webm better. Depends on device. Not all are the same.  Lastly on the caching. If you restart a lot, it will delete the cache. Even if you exit the app. I did this because i wanted to limit any memory leaks webview might present while reloading. I found a few boxes that when restarting or exiting the app webview would cause memory leaks. Also to see if the player cached just get the ip address of the machine and on another computer put in this in the url while the player is playing. http://ipofmachine:8085 it should load up a page with the video in it.

Let me know if this fixes the issue.

Dear William

I have tried the solutions you are suggesting but the problem remain.
1. I tried to use both mp4 and webm but the video is still downloaded each time it is played
2. I tried the http://192.168.1.64:8085 which is the local address of the android player but what was showed is just a page with the text "Directory /"
3. Here is the address for the presentation: http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer....
4. The downloading issue causes that the display is blocked from time to time in the Risevision platform

Any suggestion how to solve the issue?

Micke

The directory is where the video should be placed. If it's not there then the server could not download it. Also the location of the video, is it on rise or somewhere else? If anything send my a display Id with the video in it over at support@scottsdigitalsignage.com. I could take a look to see if I see errors. Thanks

It downloaded and put the video in cache for me so i am wondering if it might be a firewall issue of something is blocking the download. Also i noticed that the video was a long name with dashes. If you could shorten that up and take out the dashes then it might help. It didn't effect my devices but could on others. Android can be picky at times. The ports that the app uses is about the same as rise. 9494 and 9449. I also have one at 8085 but thats for checking the cache directory. :)

Here is the image of what the directory had for me.
