i am new with this software. i am currently just trying to build a screen (not go out to displays yet). for the background we have a url on one of our company shared drives. its a photo with date and time coded in the html.   i picked image and plugged in the url. i then also went into properties of image and checkd off -display image and keyed in the same url.   all i get displayed is the background color i chose. am i to setup the background url display differently?

Helen, it is really hard to understand what you have done there. Do you want to use a single image for your presentation's background? If so, it is very simple: in the new editor there is a sprocket icon right next to the presentation's name. Select it and in the pop-up you will see a checkbox for background images. Hit it and it will allow you to paste in URL of your image. make sure the image is easily accessible by the system. It is also very similar when you use placeholder with the Image Widget.

The best way to store images is in the RV Storage or use any other popular online hosting. I am not sure how to deal with locally stored files because I never used that option; although, I believe it is somehow possible. Yet, RV is cloud based service; therefore, it works the best when you have files 'in the cloud.'

If you did everything right, and it still does not show up, then check the file. Perhaps it is some crazy large in size and you device is struggling to upload it. This is not very typical, though.

okay. i deleted ph0 definition that i was defining for background.  i clicked sprocket  1920x1080 res, blanked out background color. keyed in url  with   .html at the end (which is composed of a photo with date/time included in the html). doesnt display.  i then keyed in url with .jpeg at the end (which is just the photo). doesnt display. i am able to access the html url from my home, and was wondering if there might be a block in risevision.

for the background.  http://its.wsboces.org/digitalsignage/wtdh_datetime2.html      which is photo and freedatetime website imbedded.
i am trying , just the photo as background (which seems to only work when i point to gif version and not jpeg)  and bringing in date and time separately from your date time widget.   but i cant find for day of week in your widget.  as in   Friday, Mar 10, 2017  instead of just March 10, 2017 (how do i shorten the month also).
i am having the same issue with   http://its.wsboces.org/digitalsignage/weatherbugdixhills.html  placeholder.   i can probably look in your free store for weather, but dont know why mine is not working.

so - why html's not displaying
where can i find "day of week" widget (couldnt find in store)
how would i shorten month to 3-4 characters.
i will look into your weqther widgets

Helen, if you know how to work around HTML/CSS/JS then there are plenty of free options to make your own for free. I am using this: http://storage.googleapis.com/risemedialibrary-77d65575-178b-499c-a476-eb66c5424a89/Acme%20Sign%20Co... For it I have made a webpage where I embeded this https://blog.darksky.net/forecast-embeds/ and there you go http://preview.risevision.com/?type=presentation&id=8a04b386-5c23-4f8a-9255-3830a5acbfef ignore snowflakes and hearts. Preview mode does not respect the scheduled content. I am also using modified version of this great pen: http://codepen.io/socrates/pen/waYPXx

The real strength of RV is the HTML editor, which allows you to build anything HTML/CSS/JS can make and that is a lot. I am loving it.

helen, in my opinion the best way for you is to start with existing widgets. This is the easiest way to learn working in RV. You cannot get much customization with existing widgets, but most of them are simple and functional  enough for beginners to learn the fundamentals of Rise Vision. Spend some time to find information in this forum. In your case particular case it is easy enough to make presentation only with 2 widgets - Image & Time And Date.

As you grow more confident in RV, move onto more complex widgets like Google Sheets. For custom content you gonna need to learn HTML/CSS/JS. Do not hesitate to ask questions if you got stuck, we are good people here.
