Upload Files Issue

I have been uploading groups of images and when I select multiple files, it uploads most of them but there is usually one file that doesn't work. When I click 'Retry Failed Uploads' it creates itself a new folder (Same name as the parent) and uploads the file there.

I then have to go in, delete the folder and upload again. This is the third time I've had this happen.

Glen,

I'm going to need some more information here. Are you uploading an entire folder, or highlighting multiple files? Is this In-App (within a widget) storage, or through storage.risevision.com?

Sorry, didn't see the response to this.

This is happening uploading single/multiple files within a Widget.

Just had it happen again uploading a single image.

Glen,

I haven't been able to replicate this issue. Can you tell me the size of file you are uploading and the extension?

They are all JPG files, 500k and under

Glen,

I've been trying to recreate this issue so I can log a bug, but neither I nor my co-workers have had any success. Can you try this in incognito mode with no extensions enabled to see if you have the same issue?

This is happening to me right this second.   Uploading a large video file in webm format.  Crashes every few minutes and creates a subfolder when I hit retry. I'm about 8 subfolders deep now.

It could take awhile. It only happens when an image fails to upload and I click the Retry button.

DtheGreek,

How large is the video file you're trying to upload?  And you're trying to upload it from within the HTML5 Video Widget, or are you doing it from the Storage App?

Thanks,

Matthew

File is 840 mb and i'm trying to upload via the storage app.  After 6 hours and over 40 subfolders the upload just finally stopped.  Incredibly frustrating.

DtheGreek,

I'm looking into your storage account now.  I'm seeing multiple large videos: 680M - 1.3G, and they all appear to be mp4 videos located in BRRH  (with multiple subfolders).  Was there one in particular you were having problems with, or can I pick any of them to try to replicate your issue?

In the meantime, I'll be attempting to upload a file I just created (of the same size) to see if I encounter the same problem.

Thanks,

Matthew

I'm uploading a new video that is meant to replace those other videos already uploaded.  The file i'm uploading froze after the 6 hour uploading marathon and was over 40 subfolders deep.  All the subfolders have since been deleted.

DtheGeek,

I was able to upload an 880M file without difficulty.  Because of the amount of time it takes for your upload to complete, I'd open up the chrome javascript console (and the console tab, specifically) and monitor the transfer while it occurs.  Look for any errors or indication that the connection was lost or otherwise hindered.  Those additional details may help to identify the source of the problem, but I'm not seeing any indication that there is a problem with our platform or network.

Thanks,

Matthew

Matthew, so why would it create a subfolder when I hit retry?  I ended up with the file being uploaded to a folder that was over 40 levels deep,

DtheGreek,

Thank you for the additional details.  I am still looking into this issue.  Can you run an internet speed test to give me an idea of your bandwidth?  Here's a link, but there are several out there:
http://www.speedtest.net/

Please run it a couple of times to get a better idea of the average.

Thanks,

Matthew

DtheGreek,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.  I was able to replicate the problem and have logged a bug in the appropriate github repo:  https://github.com/Rise-Vision/storage-client/issues/375

This isn't a problem with uploading large files, exactly, it's just that large files over a slower (or unstable) connection presents more opportunities for it to occur.  I'm not sure what a good workaround would be other than to try a different/faster network connection.

We appreciate the report, and I'll update this thread when the bug has been fixed.

Thanks,

Matthew

DtheGreek,

This issue has been resolved.  Be sure to close the browser out and clear your cache to ensure that your session uses the fixed code before trying to upload any new files.  Thank you again for bringing it to our attention and have a good weekend.

Thanks Matthew.  Not sure if it was before or after the fix but when I tried the upload through safari I had no issues at all.
