Support for multiple languages in ALL gadgets

Will there be support for different display languages in ALL of the gadgets soon? The reason I ask is because there are some gadgets, such as the weather one, that can display everything in french. Then I go to use other gadgets, such as the RSS gadget, and it only has english to display the Date/Author. Your platform can stay in english, just the output on the presentation needs to be in french.

I work for a french schoolboard in Ontario, and we implement services in french as much as humanly possible, but we try to not mix our languages. Especially when it comes to using a display in the entrance to the school for everyone to see. We take pride in our language and love to show it.

I love the Rise Vision platform and can finally show the board what it is capable of, but I need your help. We moved our whole schoolboard to Gmail and Google Apps for Education and with your platform being built around Google we just mesh together. Works for me anyways since I am the one doing the work.

You got people working for you in Toronto don't you? Get a frenchie on board to help translate/code, we work for cheap!

So any time frame/objections/news is appreciated.

Thanks,

Serge

Edit: I forgot to add that our systems are in French, so Windows 7, Gmail, etc..So unless it has something to do with your platforme detecting my systems language settings and then not displaying properly, maybe its on my end?

Serge,

This is a great question and concern. Let me look into it and get back to you!

Besides the RSS gadget, what other gadgets and widgets would you like to see fast tracked with multiple languages?

The Headline News gadget is one that doesn't have language support either. I assume the news feed is pulled from Google News..so letting us choose news.google.fr would be good.

The Google calendar as well is another one. The days are in english even though my google calendar is setup in french.

Those are just the ones I have noticed so far when planning out/testing our display. If I notice others I will leave another reply here.

Thanks for replying so quick!!

Serge,

Thanks for the follow up! I want to let you know that your suggestion was almost immediately recognized in our developer community. We're going to be coming up with some ideas on how we can proceed.

The sports Gadget would be great also. Could the include soccer scores as well?

All,

We have added documentation to allow you to submit your language of preference on all widgets! Check it out here.

Blake,

Ok so I may as well volunteer myself to do some work, it's a slow friday at work and I don't feel like doing my real work so here it goes haha!

So I went to the location mentionned on the github site for the google calendar widget and downloaded the whole zip folder and extracted. Also downloaded and installed the POedit.

The problem I have encountered now is that when in POEdit and I navigate to the locales folder, I don't see any .po files. It actually only has a translation.json file and POEdit can't open such a file.

Just wondering if I am doing anything wrong or missing a step?...

*I haven't had my morning coffee yet either*

Serge,

I am not seeing the .po file where it should be in the calendar widget either. Let me get ahold of the developer and see what's going on.

Looking forward to working with you on this project!

Blake,

Since the en.po file isn't available for the calendat widget I decided to do the translation for the spreadsheet widget. I just have a question as far as what exactly needs to be translated.

For example in this string: common##buttons##save, what exactly needs to be translated to french? Would it just be the last word save? Or does the whole string need to be translated?

Poedit gives me 10 free translations but they don't make any sense for most of the long strings, and since it's a programming language usually they stay in english.

I will send you what I have done so far and maybe you guys can take a look at it?

Serge,

We have added the .po file to the calendar widget here.

You should also only need to translate the "save" portion of that string. Thanks for working on this!

Blake,

I submitted two fr.po files tonight at the support email. One each for the calendar and spreadsheet gadgets.

Look them over and let me know if any changes need to be made.
