When will storage be more user friendly ? I can't rearrange or rename anything. I update regularly and I need to put new images I add in specific order. I have to create this in a new app re upload everything then create new presentation and schedule. This is time consuming and defeats the purpose of using folders in the image widget. Now I am uploading each image directly to the schedules and rearranging there. Extremely time consuming. I use a lot of images per schedule and I have many displays and add more displays weekly. All of which require different schedules. If I could just organize storage better it would be HUGE. And much more cost effective. This is an option I pay for and as I read on this topic it seems to be an issue for at least 2 plus years. If this upgrade isn't in near future do you have any suggestions for simplifying this process?

Kathi Jo,

We are working on improving the experience of the overall platform on a regular basis, and I know that Storage will be receiving some updates in the future to deal with some of the issues you mentioned.

One technique that I know some users use is to name the images accordingly before uploading them to the Storage folder; 001.jpg, 002.jpg, etc. That way they are in the defined order you need them in.

Also, you can rearrange items in a Placeholder's Playlist at any time to go in the order you need, this quick video shows how to do that: https://goo.gl/rke3cv

I hope that helps! We certainly understand the need for user experience improvements, and once they become available, we will be sure to let everyone know.

Thanks!

I'm aware of those other options. I update so often. Daily that I was really wanting to use the image widget with folder options. I do name my images as you suggested. It's just if I need to add a new image somewhere other than the end of the order I have to completely upload everything again which is very time consuming as many changes I need to make in a day I sometimes can't get all my changes done. Can I upload files from another storage source and have it automatically make the changes I make like it would with rise storage?

I believe the problem arise from the simple fact that RV really is... a webpage, a simple page with 'instructions' for the RV player (a basic web browser with some additional features) to compile 'the picture' for your display. Now, when you start making changes in the storage, you break all the links automatically. RV needs to find the way to update those links somehow when this is not two way communication. That is not easy thing to do. To me it looks like it is more widget related problem then storage. Image Folder is an answer to some of these problems, but of course it cannot be to all of them. You just have to find the way, maybe look into some 3rd party services too.

Kathi Jo,

One option you can do instead of having to add a new image anywhere else in the order, would be to add an "a" or something similar to the name.

For example, if you have images 001 - 010, and you need to add a second item, call it 001a.

This way it plays 001, 001a, 002, 003, etc

Will that help?

My experience seems to be it doesn't matter in RV storage. It plays in order it's uploaded. Other app folders will sort that way. RV won't rearrange Unless I'm missing something.

I actually tested this right before I put that comment up so I didn't make a fool of myself :) Please let me know if that same action doesn't work for you!

Thanks!
