I am using a Google Spreadsheet in my presentation that is in my Google Drive. While the spreadsheet does display correctly, any updates to it do not automatically update the displays even after waiting the 5 minutes. The only way that I get it to update is by re-publishing the presentation.

John,

Can you try manually refreshing the player and see if that has any effect? Simply connecting a keyboard and pressing f5 should refresh the display.

What media player, OS, and player version are you running?

John,

Could you also check that you are automatically publishing changes that are made to the spreadsheet?

Hi there. Im having the same problem. Sometimes its updating the feed, and sometimes no changes takes place even when waiting for hours. If i update the player (rise vision chrome app in kiosk mode) or re-publish the presentation, the changes appears. A bit frustrating, anyone knows about this?

Anton,

Have you selected automatically republish when changes are made on your google sheet?

I'm seeing the same issues:
1) Google Sheet's is not importing my update CSV file, this sometimes requires editing the import function to fix it, AKA deleting the URL and re-adding it. Other times it requires nothing but time...waiting for Google to be cooperative.
2) Rise Vision's Google Spreadsheet widget doesn't pull the latest Google Sheets data, sometimes the Restart Player function works, other times, it doesn't....can't find a rhyme or reason for this one.
3) One customers of our's Spreadsheet Gadget isn't scrolling. Once I perform a Restart Player command through the RV CMS, it solves the issue. The media players are rebooting every morning, so the cache should be cleared...it's only affecting 5 displays for 1 customer...I need to look into this one more.

I know not all of these are under Rise Vision's control. Hopefully Google is still making transition changes...I know I have 1 Google Sheet's app that is still on the old Spreadsheets app. What I find most interesting is their old Google Spreadsheets worked much better than their new Google Sheets...for both Rise and Google.

Everything I have is republishing automatically, on the latest Google Sheets, latest Rise Vision player, and latest Google Spreadsheets widget. (which should have a name change to reflect Google's new terminology "Google Sheets Widget")

Thank you,
Joe Kirchner

I'm having the same problem.  I used to have it updating when I was using the default layout in preview.  Now that I am using a different (custom) layout, even the preview doesn't update.  On the device, it was never consistent in updating, even with the default layout.  The spreadsheet is definitely set up properly.

On a different note.  The widget (or my browser) is caching the layout file.  this means that every time I want to change the layout (a lot right now since I'm still developing the layout) I have to change the name of the layout file in order to force it to update.

Any solutions?

Thanks,
Steven

Steven,

Can you elaborate a little about what you're seeing? Are you updating a google spreadsheet, and then those updates are not being reflected on the display since updating to a custom layout?

That is a good summary.  I have a custom layout that is based on one of the example layouts and when I change the spreadsheet, the changes do not get pulled onto the display until the whole presentation reloads, the update every 5 minutes thing doesn't seem to work.

Did anyone ever find a fix or workaround to this? I'm using the sheets widget and an API key to refresh the spreadsheet data every minute. Doesn't ever seem to update unless the presentation is republished. We're using it as a birthday presentation in a school and also and possibly an  announcements page.

Cody,

Any chance a different API key might help? I haven't heard of this issue before, and typically sharing as "anyone with the link" should be enough.

I tried again with a new API key and it worked consistently 5 times in a row. I had a theory and so far seems to be the issue. The issue pops up when there is no data in the specified range. I have the widget set to look in A2-B15. As long as there is data it continues to update. After I clear the data and the range is empty the presentation updating stops breaks. It continues to request the API though.

I have exactly the same issue with a bit more detail.  I am pulling data from column A only.  When selecting a range of data if there is an empty cell that has data above it and below it then the empty cell will update when the empty cell receives data. However if there is a range of cells selected and there is no data at the end of the range (like a closing anchor) then any empty cells will not update with data.  Is there a solution out there?

Hi there,

Which Presentation are you having this issue with in your Company? Also, can I ask if you are using the latest version of the Spreadsheet Widget? If not, please upgrade to using the latest version of the Spreadsheet Widget by following these steps: https://risevision.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002240363-Use-the-Google-Spreadsheet-Widget

Thanks!

It is the latest spreadsheet widget (2.0.0), and the most recent player (RisePlayerElectron 2017.04.20.16.19, windows 7 pro 64 bit) the name of the presentation is Station 1 Display 2017:  http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer.html?type=presentation&id=f5171c4d-13fd-4583-8e06-689995802... In particular it is the "Daily Roster" which pulls from the google sheets.  It is a dynamic sheet that can vary from hour to hour depending on our department staffing.  As a temporary workaround I have included another cell or two below what I need to display.  This ensures that there was a constant entry and a lower anchor - I then cover up what I don't need with another widget (text) so that it will not display.  I would LOVE a more permanent solution.
I have tried using a different API key, recreating the presentation, using the rise player and the chrome player, removing all formatting and conditions from the spreadsheet, but the only consistent errors are the blank cells with data above and not below in a specified range.
Thank you for all work, the Newark Fire Department (Ohio) gets a LOT of use from your software.
