Spreadsheet Gadget - DataTables warning...

Have you seen any issues with the Google Spreadsheet Widget? We are getting random front end errors on one of our presentations using the widget...

"DataTables warning: table id=DataTables_Table_0 - Requested unknown parameter '5' for row 0. For more information about this error, please see http://datatables.net/tn/4"

We make no reference to any script from datatables.net, which makes be believe its the gadget calling the script.

We are using a custom layout on all of our spreadsheet implementations for more granular styling controls. In this case, its http://apparentmedia.ca/rise/jtcc-schedule.html

This error seems to happen after 5 minutes, the data refresh interval. If I close the error, the data continues, but without the layout specified. The error will come up every 5 minutes.

If I look at the Google Sheet that the gadget is specifying, the sheet has data in it

There is nothing specific in the chrome error console regarding this

Any ideas?

Hi Kevin,

Can you tell us if this is happening in preview or on the display?  If it's on the display, can you let us know what type of media player you are using and the operating system?

This happens in preview mode on windows 10 in Chrome 45, as well as on a Cinique Android player, specs below
Operating System:

Linux 32-bit
Player Version: RisePlayer 2.9.17
Viewer Version: 1-06-201509091307

Kevin,

We have a developer slated to look into this issue.

In the meantime, I may have had some success on this issue. It looks like you have a fairly outdated player, could you follow the instructions on Ubuntu that are outlined here to download and install the newest version of Rise Player? I have your presentation running locally on this new player, and I have not yet seen the error message, although I have been able to replicate in preview.

The player is running Android, specifically the Cenique Player. I'll see if Cenique has an updated version of their player software available.

We have another installation, using the same hardware in the same location also pulling from a Google Spreadsheet without this error. Both use custom layouts to display the list.

Kevin,

Actually I've just replicated this issue on our newer player as well, so it doesn't look like it's specific to the Player version. Our development team is currently looking into it. I'll check back in when we have an answer for you.

As an update, this only seems to occur with custom layouts. If I strip out a custom layout and use the default, the issue goes away. If I add it back in, the issue resurfaces.

Thanks Kevin,

It's possible there is an issue with your custom layout. The team is looking into it and I'll get back to you with their response.

Another update. I was able to surpess the error from occuring. If a column in the spreadsheet is blank, after the 5 minute period the error comes up, but the column headers stay the same. In our case, the Room 1 and Room 2 columns were empty, if I put dummy data in the error no longer comes up.

However... If all columns have data, after 5 minutes the data table gets erased, but strangly, the last two column headers become duplicated
