Slideshow With Image Directory

I am curious if there is ANY possible way to run a slideshow but instead of inputting the image, input a folder instead. This way if I make any changes to www.example.com/images/ they will also update on the player. Any way is this possible? I am aware of the Photo Album gadget, but this does not work in the way required.

Hi Mike,

I'm sure there would be a way, you may want to see if any of our Partners have a solution they could offer you.

Out of curiosity, how isn't the Photo Album Gadget suitable for your needs?

Thanks.

The photo album gadget uses MRSS feeds, and this is something that I do not have setup. If I recall correctly, the feed would pull from the latest posted images and would display outdated images after they were deleted. I may be wrong.

Thanks for the additional information.

Deleted images should remove themselves from the feed, but it may take a while. It isn't an instantaneous change.

Thank you for this information. This is something I will have to look into!

Would an animated gif help?

You can use a PHP script, running on a webserver, and embed it in your presentation. I made one myself. When I upload images via FTP, they will be directly and automatically included in the slideshow.

Thanks for the info Ashleigh
  1. So dump images in a webserver directory
  2. Use the image widget in Rise Vision
  3. Place the URL to the directory in the custom URL image text box
  4. ???
Are these steps close? I'm not sure where to set the placeholder. Will this play random images?

I am currently using Wordpress and Nextgen Pro image plugin to display a randomly sorted image slideshow on a webpage. Then I use the Webpage widget to display the slideshow. My displays are Puppy Linux distros running the Rise Vision Chrome app. Unfortunately the Nexgen gallery plugin causes the RiseVision Chrome App to crash randomly.

Andy,

Unfortunately, you will need to extract the URL from each image in the directory.
Once you have the individual URL for each file, you can add the image widget one at a time, just like in the steps you've outlined.

You can set the placeholder wherever you'd like to contain your images. You cannot randomize the images, but you can put them in the order you'd like to in your playlist.

That's far from ideal. Thanks though.

Hi Andy, this should still work. The only disadvantage is that index.php needs to be refreshed when new images are added, but you can configure this when using a webpage widget. I use a more advance script to solve this, but can't share this because it contains proprietary software.
I will check if I run into the same problems as you are mentioning, maybe the script needs a little update.

I think I finally found a script that works well. It's about 10 years old but it works like I need it to and I can give multiple staff access to the web directory to drop images. It's a very simple auto random slideshow.
