Silent installation and execution on Windows 10

I have bought 10 of the pre-configured Intel Compute Sticks from Rise Store and they work reasonably well. I now intend to image them using our standard image and would like to automate the re-installation of the Rise Player. Is there a guide to the command line switches and options for the 64-bit Windows Rise Player installer? Is there a silent install guide? What exactly does the installer do? Is there a way to just run the player via Chrome kiosk mode and not install anything? etc. Looking for one place if possible, but haven't found it yet after a fair amount of searching. Thanks!

Hi Jonathan,

There is no guide for command line switches and options for the installer. There is no silent install option. The installer checks the current version of player against the production version and upgrades it if needed. There is no Chrome kiosk mode or option to run without installing.

If you're creating a new image with Rise Player pre-installed, I would suggest doing the following.

- Install Rise Player with a valid display ID for the first run through
- Exit Rise Player
- Open and edit the file RiseDisplayNetworkII.ini in Wordpad
- Delete the Display ID after "displayid="
- Save
- Reboot

Creating the image after performing the preceding steps will allow the Rise Player to boot to the "enter display ID" portion of the installer at first boot, allowing you to install using unique display IDs.

Thanks Blake for responding. Is there a plan in the works to create a silent installer? It would certainly simplify deployment to not require an image just for Rise use. I have 8 in service now, and can handle a bit of hand-installing, but I wouldn't want to expand without a silent installation method!

Hi there John,

At this time there are not plans to create a silent installer, but I have changed this from a question ton an Idea, so others can vote for the Silent installation if they are interested in that same functionality.

Thanks!

It seems that the installer must be run as the same user account that will later logon to the Display. This really doesn't work well in an imaging workflow, since one would rarely join a domain, install software, then disjoin the domain before proceeding with imaging. It would really be great if you could at least list out what your installer DOES, as then I could just replicated those changes in our system. It can't be all that complicated.

Johnathan,

That is correct, the user that runs the installer must be the one that logs in, since it creates everything under that user account.

The installer runs and installs all appropriate files into C:\Users\%USERNAME%\ApPdata\Local\RVPlayer.

From there, it stores the Display ID, and all cached data for content in the Presentation.

Was there any additional info you needed?
