Should the image widget stop displaying images deleted from storage?

I have the Image Widget playing a folder of images in RiseVision storage. I thought that if I deleted images from the folder, they should stop showing up in the presentation automatically, without any need to republish the presentation. However, this does not seem to be happening. The presentation has been playing for at least ten minutes now (all of the image shave been shown several times over) and the deleted images are still being displayed. Should they have stopped showing up? If so, how long should I expect to wait?

I was hoping to allow some of our users to update the presentation merely by adding images to or deleting them from a RiseVision storage folder. If this doesn't work, I'm going to have to reconsider whether we should be using this display solution.

Hi William,

I'm going to need to recreate this use case locally. Please stand by and I'll let you know how it pans out, as well as my expectation of how it should work.

Thanks.

William,

I just tested this use case. I added two images to a folder, added the Image Widget playing a folder of images, and deleted the second image. After about 5 minutes, the deleted image stopped appearing on my display. I believe the expected use case is that it is removed from the presentation within 15 minutes.

Blake,

What you say you saw doesn't match what I saw. In my presentation, the deleted images were still displaying hours after I removed them from the folder. I finally made an unrelated change and published the presentation and the deleted images stopped displaying. Perhaps this was a one time glitch, but if I continue to see this behavior, should I follow up on this thread or start a new problem report?

William, please do let us know if you're not seeing the correct behavior. You can update this conversation or create a new one. Either way if fine with us!

Thanks!

 Question for William:

How did you setup your RV storage to allow other users to upload their own presentation's content? If you set them up as users in your company, how do you keep them from accidentally uploading or deleting images from other user's folders?

(We're currently letting each campus upload their own images to their own Picasa album. Once they send me the RSS, they can control the content of their image slideshows, and I don't have to do it myself. We're looking for a similar solution now that Picasa is going away, and just discovered that the new Photo Feed Widget won't work like this for Google Photos. So we're trying to find a way to duplicate this decentralized control for our users.)

Thanks,
Robert

Robert,
I'm afraid I don't have an answer to your question. I didn't do any setup to the RiseVision storage to prevent one user from accidentally loading images to or deleting images from another user's folder. I don't think this is possible.

Since we are just trying out RiseVision right now and we have only one or two people managing our admittedly very limited digital signage through an awkward primitive home-brewed system, I decided that this was an issue we could overlook for the time being, although I did realize that it might well be a problem in the future, if we do use RiseVision and our use of digital signage grows, along with the number of people managing it.

Sorry,
William

William,

Just checking in, did you see the images remove themselves? If so, how long did it take?

I have not seen the issue I reported again, so it seems to have been a one time glitch, although I am still sure it did happen that one time. If I do see the issue again, either frequently or, especially, reproducibly, I will report it in another thread.
