Scheduling content on business hours vs. night vs. week-end

Hi all,
I guess I am a little bit confused about how to schedule content based on time/day, especially since you find timeline options at each level: presentation (at the placeholder level) and schedule (and even in this module - you have a timeline option for the schedule and then at the presentation level when you add a presentation!).

My goal is to have 1 presentation during business hours (8am to 6pm Monday to Friday) and another "night" presentation during the night hours , and the same "night" presentation during the week-end (all day long).

I created my main set of presentations, attached it to a schedule and then pushed it to my display. Works fine. Now when I try to have this business hours vs. the rest of the day approach:

I created one night presentation. My idea was to attach it to a new schedule and select the appropriate timeline for this night presentation. However I run into several issues:
- how to take care of the over-midnight transition ? Shall I create a schedule for all mornings (from 12am to 8am) and then create another schedule for all end of days (form 6pm to 12am)
- I guess I would need to create another schedule for the week-end days
- When I try to select a (my only) display in this "night" schedule, it's saying me that "Distribution Error: Displays cannot be selected because All Displays is selected in schedule 'QUICKPASS_FC_Schedule_BusinessHours'" - but if I cannot push it to a display, how it is going to work?

Thanks for your help.

You're almost there!

Any Display can have one (and only one) schedule (via the schedules tab).  For whatever display you want the new schedule to apply to, you'll need to remove the display from the "QUICKPASS_FC_Schedule_BusinessHours" or whatever schedule it is currently assigned to first in order to include it into a new schedule.  This may need to be done by deselecting 'all displays' in that schedule and then assigning just those other displays you want still to use that schedule individually.

Based on your description above, you'd make a new schedule that includes 4 playlist items. Within the schedules tab, you'd add the playlist item, select presentation, and then choose the presentation you want and uncheck the 'Timeline: Always" box and select the date indicator box below, then uncheck 'all day' to select times and select 'weekly' to select specific days.

So schedule the overnight presentation from 12-8 M-F, the daytime presentation from 8-6 M-F, and the overnight again from 6-12 M-F.  You would the schedule the overnight presentation to run 'all day on Sat & Sun.

That's it!

Thank you Biologyben for the help. Now it makes sense. and I didn't know we could add multiple times the same presentation in a schedule (which I did for the overnight presentation to happen in the morning before business hours, in the evening after business hours and during the week-end).

I have implemented it and will watch it tonight to see if the transition happens at 6pm at close of business.
The unique link between a display and a schedule was not obvious so thank you for pointing that out. A suggestion for future improvement of the documentation from Rise Vision.

Thanks all!

One last question: when selecting start time and end time for a timeline, I noticed this is by 15 min increment, which is fine. But when I want to setup an after-hours presentation from 6pm to midnight, shall I select from 6am to 11:45pm, or 12am at the top of drop-down list ?

I would assume midnight - if you have anytime with nothing scheduled, then your display is blank.  That being said, you can also type into the field more exact times and it will save as well, so 11:59 is an option (with a 1 minute blank)

I don't actually schedule anything exactly like this, so I'll let Rise corroborate how the time rollover would best work.

BiologyBen is correct in that it will show blank space for that 15 minutes from 11:45 to 12 am. My recommendation would just be to show from 6 pm to 12 am, and with 4 Presentation Items, here is is what the outcome would be:

Overnight presentation from 12-8 M-F
Daytime presentation from 8-6 M-F
Evening Presentation from 6-12 M-F
Overnight Presentation all day on Sat & Sun

I hope that helps, and thanks Biologyben for adding your points as well!

Got it. Thanks everyone. It seems to work fine now!
