Schedule not activating

One of our displays is misbehaving it seems as of late.  The schedule each day ends at 10 pm at which point the screen goes black as expected.  The next morning however, it remains black at 8 am when the schedule starts.  The schedule itself has not changed.  I have reinstalled the player (Ubuntu) several times but it persists.  To get it going again, it seems that simply clicking on Save on the schedule (without making any changes) wakes up the player and off it goes for the day.  None of the other players (which are on different schedules by the way) seem to be affected, just this one schedule.

I'm not sure why simply saving the schedule without making any changes to it triggers the player to activate.

Here's the link to the schedule:  http://rva.risevision.com/#/SCHEDULE_MANAGE/id=f0dd5db6-6af1-485a-9714-30c6aab73f92?cid=fcad7832-b5d...

Maybe something has been corrupted in the schedule and we need to delete/recreate it?

Thank you

Curtis

FAC,

Can you try assigning this schedule to another display and see if the problem persists? Which player version are you running?

Thanks Blake.  I've currently got a test display also assigned to the schedule.    It's been booted up and is running correctly at the moment.  I'll leave it running and check in the morning if it is sitting on a black screen as well.

The both displays are running RisePlayer 2.0.035 and have been identically installed (with of course the exception of IP address and host name) using scripting.

FAC,

Please let me know how this goes. At first glance I don't see anything wrong with your schedules, but I'll be happy to help out should the test display show the same issue.

Good morning Blake,

Both displays are showing black this morning and it is currently 10 minutes past the scheduled start time.   I have not clicked on Save in the schedule yet to wake them up.   Could you please have a look?

Thank you

FAC, a couple of things to try.

Ensure that the display isn't turning it's screen off from zero activity (since it's a black screen) You could check into your displays power management settings.

Also, try scheduling a couple of generic static images as a Presentation to play during the off time hours and see if that static image stays present after the 10AM LIVE Content should be playing. That might help diagnose exactly where the issue is present.

Thanks, however, nothing has changed in terms of power management on the displays and I've confirmed they are both on.  When the room lights are off, you can still see a faint glow on the screen.  The other working displays are identical hardware with identical settings, but on different schedules.  This display used to work and since the test display on the same schedule is exhibiting the same behavior, I'm thinking something is messed up in the schedule.  Clearly though, the schedule shows content should be playing and simply clicking Save in the schedule without making any changes causes it to activate.  I'm somewhat inclined to create another duplicate schedule and move the displays to it to see what happens.

FAC,

It looks like your timeline for this schedule may be messed up. The timeline is set to always, but when I drill in to look at the settings it doesn't look like those add up. Can you try selecting the boxes I have pointed out below, then saving the schedule?

Hi Blake,

Before I got to your suggestion, I created a new schedule from scratch:

http://rva.risevision.com/#/SCHEDULE_MANAGE/id=a220534b-1f02-4de5-9eb5-9b9a899e20c4?cid=fcad7832-b5d...

and moved the display to this new schedule and then renamed the old schedule to "Lobby - center old schedule" and put my test display on the old schedule.

Neither display was showing anything after 8 am this morning.

The new schedule above has Timeline: Always checked and if you drill down, there is no end date and the timeline is also all day.

As far as I can see, the "Events - daily except Thursday" presentation should be running.

I just hit Save on this new schedule without making any changes to it and it is now running.

As for the old schedule, I made those changes you suggested and saved it but nothing comes up.

Very weird...

Hi FAC,

It looks to me from your last response that there is no longer an issue and that your schedule is working properly once you Saved the schedule again.  If there continues to be a problem, please let us know.

Actually, I need to click on Save each time to get it to go at the start of the schedule.  The exception is on Thursday when that presentation starts automatically at 8 am.  The other days of the week it runs the Events presentation which does not start automatically.

Both old and new schedules behave the same.

FAC.

Is the schedule link you sent above - http://rva.risevision.com/#/SCHEDULE_MANAGE/id=a220534b-1f02-4de5-9eb5-9b9a899e20c4?cid=fcad7832-b5d... - still the current one you are using and having issues with?

Hello Alex,

Yes, that is the one that does not start until I click on the schedule and click Save without making any changes to it.

An update: it appears to be resolved, but I will continue to monitor.  I decided to take a different approach and re-save the presentation itself vs. the schedule.  Note that previously, saving an unmodified schedule with the presentation or simply restarting the player caused the presentation to start.  However, I would have to do this each day to nudge it along at the start of the schedule.

For the past two days, the presentation is showing correctly at the start of the schedule after simply clicking Save on the presentation and publishing it again.  Note that it was not previously in a Revised state when it was failing to show in the schedule.  I had this idea because on Thursday of each week, a different presentation starts at the beginning of the schedule and the problem presentation was every other day of the week.   The Thursday presentation always started successfully.

I'm not sure what exactly what the issue was, however, it does seem that saving the unmodified presentation again and publishing appears to have corrected whatever snag it was running into as it has been starting ok the last two days.

I'll continue to monitor for the rest of the week to see if it continues to start without intervention.

I'm going to call this solved - saving the presentation seems to have been the solution, despite it already being in a published state.
