I am in the process of making a samsung smart signage app for Rise. Now normally just having the app run the signage is what most people want but i also like to get ideas from the community on what they might like to see in the app. Other than the obvious this is what I'm trying to include.

1. Orientation.
2. PIP like feature where you can add live tv feeds from cable connection to the signage without extra hardware or software. (Possible still looking into the api)
3. Company info
4. Security
5. Restart/Reboot

Might add more but thats what i got so far. This app is a ways out but as I'm piecing the app together i didn't want to leave something out for those interested.

What is your question? As of now I'm in the beginning stages of developing. Its not out or in beta at the moment, this is just to see what people might want in the app. Thanks

The ability to turn the display on and off would be great if possible.

On Samsung sssp commercial tvs in which the app is being made for you should already be able to do that in the system->time and use the sleep timers. Most commercial tvs should have that built in. The app is close to being finished just got a few more things to work on.

Wow, I'm impressed! We are just purchasing a Samsung SmartTV and this would be exactly what we're looking for. Will you be posting here when it's finished?

This is for the business smart signage platform not the consumer smarthub tv's. Just wanted to clear up the confusion.

Hi William,

Have you got any progress regarding this app? I am currently looking for a TV that can display Rise signage without using a separate computer.

Thanks,
Jeff

It's still being worked on but my time has been limited due to work and taking over for a tech that got fired. Once my work place hires a new person I can bring more attention to this but for now I'm covered up doing two jobs.

Hi, any updates ? Looking to run Rise Vision on a some Samsung ue40h6400 smart TVs.
This would be awesome as it would eliminate the need for a PC or raspberry pi.

No not yet. I just got done with My Rise Player 3.0 and have one other thing in the development cycle before i can get back to work on it. I have been really busy this year and development is something as a hobby so things for me take longer due to free time.

Just for me I'm only looking for software that runs on my Samsung MD40. I want to create content for the display with interactive possibilities to show newsfeeds, weather, etc. It would be nice to have a ticker which can be changed on the fly (to show waiting times). On/ off scheduling can be done in the display itself, so that's not necessary.

It would be nice if the app could control on/ off as a setting within the Risevision scheduling function. If there are many displays it would be much easier to manage energy efficiency as needs change.

William, would your app on the smart signage models still require "smartsign" or does it replace/run independently of the pre installed stuff?

As far as feature requests- The ability to control a PIP-feature would be the major cool factor as it is the one thing that prevents me from using Rise on all my customer displays.

Yes it had to be independently run. Also the 2013 models was going to be an issue for me. One i don't have the bandwidth to handle it url wise and two the 2014 models changed to a zip format so it can be package as an app. Then tizen was in play because samsung would not answer if the 2015 models will have it since its consumer end went that way. With that i kinda stopped because i hate coding and not knowing if samsung was going to just change something that would require a complete change in code or a complete redo. Also rise went through a change with going to widgets which caused me to work on the android apps.

Now i will say I'm not totally abandoning the project. I think if i do get back i will have to get a newer model because samsung requires it to be a package app and that would be something i probably can do with the existing code. I just haven't decided yet. I just got my freedom from coding after all the android app changes and i kinda need the break.

Oh when i did the project i did get live tv to work. You had to place in the placeholder in the presentation where there was nothing there underneath (completely transparent). Anyway i will let everyone know if i do get back on it but for now I'm kinda enjoying a break. :)

We're also interesting in getting RISE Vision to work with SSSP. This is as Dave mentions the only thing that stand us from using it on all our digital displays at the moment.

When I started this it was back in 2013. I had a 2013 model and almost had everything running. Then Samsung came out with there 2014 models that changed how things were done under there sdk 2.0. The 2013 models however didn't get the updated so I was left with having to redo a big portion of what I had already done to work on the new models. Something I didn't have time to do. Plus rise went to widgets during that time and that's when I had to redo some android ap stuff to fit with the widgets. i would like to pick it up again someday but I would need to get a newer model and see what changes I need to make to get it to work. I actually had live tv working on it when I was doing it. Might look at it again but right now im deciding if I want to change jobs or not. Digital signage is something I do on the side and something I like to play with.

Now when Samsung have released the DB series (with a very aggressive price model and with faster hardware as well), demand for 3rd party Signage software for these will grow. Hopefully we'll see someone pickup up the Baton and start coding in near future!

I will probably look at it again but will be next year. I want to see how things shape out with all the things that's happening right now. I have a weather widget in beta and I'm working on Windows iot app for the pi 2. Then updating all my android apps in January. Busy busy.

Byron, I can run on the emulator for some time. I will let you know if I need something.

I havent in sometime due to the fact that samsung went to Tizen based tvs and Rise went through a change with the way players communicate to there servers. It was easier to do a few years back but with all the changes that have happened recently im just lucky to keep android going. Hopefully we can work on those things again but right now we are trying to figure out how we are going to deal with the new changes on our android apps.
Thanks
