We are releasing a new RSS Widget to the Community for early preview! The Widget is compatible with our new Editor (https://editor.risevision.com) and it will eventually replace the existing RSS Gadget.

During the early preview the Widget may have limited functionality until we’ve worked through the development backlog, and you may encounter an issue that we didn’t catch, but most importantly it is an opportunity for you, the user, to give us your feedback!

As new features are released we’ll post updates to this conversation. If you would like to receive an email when new comments are added, make sure to select the “Follow” link at the top right.

Thanks to all and we look forward to hear your feedback!

  • Added "Max Items in Queue". This allows you to configure the max number of Items from the Feed to rotate through
  • Added "Show Each Item for". This allows you to configure how long each Item from the Feed is shown for.
  • Added an option to configure the Widget to show the full Description or a Description Snippet.
More new features to follow. Please let us know if you experience any issues or have feedback.

Is there an easy way to change the color of links within the RSS feed?

Hi Steve, we don't have plans to support that, but we could certainly investigate doing that if there is demand. I'm going to turn your question into an idea and we'll see how the Community responds.

All, if you would like to see this functionality added to the new RSS Widget please let us know. You can do so by selecting "Like" at the top right of the page or comment.

Thanks

Hi,
I have a suggestion. Would it be possible to add a setting that would limit the amount of description by paragraph? Thing is that many RSS feeds add links at the bottom as separate paragraphs. Would be nice to get rid of them for many reasons.

Thanks for the feedback Darius. I'll review and get back to you.

Have a good weekend!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I can recreate the same behaviour you're seeing, so I will bring this up to our Development team.

Thanks!

We've released several updates to the RSS Widget.
  • We've added three new layouts giving more control over how your RSS feed appears (custom layout support coming soon!)
  • If you've configured the Widget to show more than one item at at time you can now optionally show a line separator between them.
  • We've updated how feeds are parsed to have better compatibility for both Atom and RSS feeds.
Check them out and let us know what you think!

A new version of the RSS Widget is now available and includes the following:
  • Scroll your feed vertically
  • Specify a custom layout
  • You can now configure how many characters of the Description to show when you've configured the Widget to show Description Snippet.
Let us know if you encounter any issue.

Thanks!

Question: do I get new updated features automatically or do I need to re-install the widget again?

No need to reinstall for these updates. All you need to do is edit the Widget's settings so the HTML of your Presentation can updated with the settings of the new features.

Thanks!

I have 2 instances of RSS Widget running in the same presentation right next to each other. Both are set to show single news feed at a time and move on to the next one after 20s. But what is happening, one feed is a bit slower than the other one, which builds up over the time and looks silly... like poorly synchronized eye blinking :) Not a major issue for me, but maybe you want to look at how the timing works in that widget.

Thanks Darius. I've been running the content for about 20 minutes now and seems okay to me. Is there a certain amount of time that needs to pass before you see it on your end, and do you see this in Preview and on your Display?

I changed the feed in one of them about 15 min. ago and it is terribly off sync right away.

Okay, I see now. The delay is a caused by the difference in response time between the two feeds. We'll review and get back to you early next week.

Thanks!

Hey Darius, we spent some time looking at this and there are a bunch of variables at play here that can result in what you see. Unfortunately, all those variables add up to a bunch of complexity and we have concerns that an immediate solution will jeopardize the Widget's reliability. Given this we are not going to pursue this right now, but will review again as we work through our backlog of improvements to our remaining Core Content.

Appreciate all your feedback. Thanks!

An updated version of the RSS Widget has been released that includes the ability to scroll your feed from right to left. Check it out and let us know your feedback!

With this release of the RSS Widget we've reached the end of our development backlog. In the coming weeks we'll remove the "Early Preview" label and discontinue support for the RSS Gadget.

If you are currently using the RSS Gadget please migrate to the RSS Widget and let us know if you run into any issues.

Thanks!

Alan, so no feed content limitation by paragraphs for me :)

Darius, so sorry for the delay. Completely missed it.

We added support to specify the number of characters for the Description Snippet, but no plan to make that configurable on a per paragraph basis. If there is demand, we'll look into it though.

I'll fork your original request as an idea to increase visibility and allow others to vote.

Thanks, Alan, but character number simply does not do the trick where I need it.

I'd love to see an even slower speed option for vertical scrolling.

It would also be nice to have the option for a scrolling feed to "wrap around" without pausing and starting from the beginning.

Hi Jillian, I forked this as an idea here,  Allow slower scroll speeds with RSS Widget. If there is demand we'll look into adding this to the RSS Widget.

Thanks for the feedback!

New widget seems great, has a slight random transition issue though.

I've got it set to page through 9 articles in batches of 3. At the end of the 3rd page the widget fades and restarts.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The rest of the assets on the page slide, so the RSS is uniform with them apart from that last transition.

They read fine on the intended large reception display at those font sizes, I agree they look tiny on normal displays!

Hi Matt,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, the way it is working now is as designed.

So what I am going to do is fork your comment above into a new idea, and update it a bit so users understand what you want to see, and if they agree, they can vote up the idea!
