RSS Configuration Hangs

I'm trying to set up the RSS Feed widget (the newer one, from mid-2016). I open the configuration panel and within a few seconds the entire page hangs. Nothing on the page responds and Chrome eventually times out to an "Aw, Snap" message.  A presentation with the older RSS widget still works, but is no longer configurable. [We had to wait 7 months to get the display hardware installed - now I'm suddenly under the gun to get the signage presentation up and running.]

Is this the Widget being used? -

I cannot find any other RSS Widgets...

This might also help - alot of times I like to add widgets via HTML to Rise

Yes, that's the Widget I'm using - thanks for the pointers to other options. We've tinkered with some home grown PHP code I might repurpose for this also.

Hi Thomas,

I got into your presentation and configured the RSS Widget, it's working for me. Is it possible that you have a browser addon that is causing the problem? Have you tried incognito mode? Can you try clearing your browser cache?

Thanks!
Blake

Unfortunately, I have a lot of experience figuring out what I need to disable in Chrome even to login to RiseVision [one of my very few frustrations with the platform]. I've disabled all plugins and tried both incognito and guest browsing (guest usually works better for me). Nothing has helped.

Thomas,

Just out of curiousity, is it only a specific feed that does it? Or does any feed cause it to hang?

Thomas,

Is this the Room Schedule - 476 presentation?

Once again, I'm impressed by how responsive your support is. The problem does seem to be in my Chrome browser after all; even striped of all its plugins and opening up third-party cookies, it still didn't work. But using guest mode on a Chromebook, it works fine.

Now that I can see the RSS Feed widget in action, I cannot format its output they way I'd like. Is there any documentation on the Custom Layout URL option? [We're working with some odd RSS feeds that only have a title, no description; the widget leaves a lot of room for the description, so we get an unhelpful, mostly empty screen.]

Thomas,

The problem isn't with the RSS Layout itself, it's with the hosting.

Have you tried hosting it on Rise Storage?

Hey there Thomas,

Were you able to try hosting at Rise Storage to see if that fixed the issue?

Sorry, I haven't been able to work on this in a few days. How do I get my template onto the Rise Storage site?

Would an alternate solution be to serve this from our server with an "Access-Control-Allow-Origin: http://s3.amazonaws.com" header? (Edit: Yes, this does seem to work.)<br>

Wonderful, I'm glad you found a solution!

To upload a file into Storage, you can log into https://apps.risevision.com, click on the Storage tab at the top of the page, and select to Upload a file. When you upload your layout, you can get a direct link to it by selecting it and then clicking the URL link button.

Thanks!
