As I was heading into a meeting I noticed one of the display boards RiseVision Player quit and then start back up as I walked through. Trying to figure out WHY it quit randomly in the middle of the day. Not seeing anything in the RisePlayer.log that seems to be an error though. Included the last entries, just after the shutdown and the one entry previous.

This is from the Chromium.log. No timestamps or anything, so no idea when this info is from exactly.

Any thoughts as to what caused the crash/shutdown?

Glen,

I'm going to take a closer look at this and get back to you as soon as I have a better idea of what happened.

Thanks for sharing this.

Glen,

We can't tell a whole lot from those log snippets, but you could try installing libsoftokn3 (http://www.opencsw.org/package/libsoftokn3/) to see if the error message goes away or if the random crashing stops.

Is there any other logs I could provide?

I don't even know how often this happens, like I said, I was just walking by and happened to see it go down. Installing something won't tell me if it stops (Or if it happens again), especially if there is nothing in the logs that are showing a crash or random shut down...

I am not a linux person, so I have no idea how to install this software and there don't seem to be any instructions on the page.  Nor does it say what it is (Though if I go to their software list, it says it's a Network Services Security tool????).

I don't really feel comfortable installing something onto a production display when I don't know what it is, especially when it doesn't seem to have anything to do with error logging and we have no potential leads other than it's mention in a log file...

Glen,

Can you share the presentation? I would like to get it running on our Pi Player in house and see if I can replicate the issue.

Glen,

I have been monitoring my local Pi for signs of shutdown and have not seen anything similar to this. I also don't see that same error in the logs. It could be due to the content that you're running having issues with the older version of Chromium. We have the latest version built into Pi Player.

It seems like others have encountered this issue with Chromium running in Pi player as well, and it's not restricted to our platform. You can take a look at this https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=91962 for some more specific information on what you can do. Please note that any unverified fixes on that forum are strictly use at your own risk, I would recommend implementing them on a non-production player first.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link. I will take a look at this if I have time in the next few days.

The content on the first one is simply images (Hosted on Storage) and a Google Spreadsheet with multi-day/tab functionality.

The second one is a series of iFrames pulling in information from our web server (MediaTemple) as well as a Google Calendar.

Nothing overly fancy.
