  • Not a Problem
I have displays running in several schools - some schools are using a display panel with an attached embedded XP OS.  Others are running the displays from Windows 7 machines.  The Win 7 are not having any problem but all but 2 of my XP machines are no longer running.  When I manually click on Risevision player, nothing happens.  None of the processes that should be running are doing so.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the players but to no avail.  I can run same display on Win 7 machines in the schools.  The TV's that are still running XP are ones that have been online without interruption.  The ones that have stopped running have been restarted at some point.  We are looking at policies and firewall settings from our network end but can't seem to figure out why this is happening.

Hi Sue,

We haven't tested, or supported XP for a number of years now.  You can review our compatibility matrix here.  Are you able to swap them out with other Windows 7 computers, or possibly Linux ones?

Thanks.

Yes I realize XP isn't supported any longer...these are what came with the Displays we are using in some of the schools...we are looking into upgrading them - just trying to get them running in the meantime...its funny they all stopped working at once...

I don't think there are any Windows Updates done for XP any longer, but the timing of it would coincide with their traditional update Tuesdays (security updates maybe?)

Its possible if an update did get applied, it got applied to all of them and that caused the Player to stop.

Hi Sue Hickey,

I would suggest you go with installation of linux OS on these systems. I have been using risevision on Linux Mint OS for almost a month now without any problems.
