Risevision app shuts down on its own randomly

Hi

We are experinencing this problem in last couple of weeks. We have a network or 25 displays across whole country, with mostly same hardware, but few displays have a different hardware. Im pointing this so i could rule out the hardware problem.

To monitor our network we use Teamviewer and the program does its job nicely. However in last couple of weeks we are experiencing next problem:

On all machines we use  Risevision Chrome App running on Win 8.1. While most of the time everything is in order, it happens at least 3-4 times a week, that Risevision app stops working. and i mean it just closes on its own. Like if you would do with alt+f4. Problem is that the pc is still online, os we could not react in time because its online in teamviewer. So we think that everything is fine. While on screen there is a windows desktop shown. This happens on all machines, totally randomly. It can happen in 9am on wednesday or 11 pm on sunday. there is no pattern of some sort. Even though i have checked the monitoring of all displays to notify me by email when rise goes offline, it has a 30 minute delay. So basically when i get an email that risevision is offline on display, it has been offline for half an hour. And we cant have a person assigned to sit in front of a display list and refresh the page 24/7.

So i wanted to see if you are aware of this problem, or maybe someone else has experienced this.

Thanks in advance.

Fifthscreen,

We are aware of this issue and are currently looking into it. At the moment, we are testing implementation of a watchdog program that will automatically relaunch the Rise Player if it has noticed it's crashed. If this is an urgent matter for you, I would recommend you take a look on Google for programs that may fit the bill for you. We should have updated documentation to reflect our solution for this very soon.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Chrome App Player is crashing and is not restarting after that....

All the new version of Rise Chrome App player got the same issue. I'm using it on windows 64 bit with 8 go RAM. When it crashed it never start again automaticly; I have to restart it manualy. Did I miss something in the settings ?

Phillipe,

You are free to download the Native Player from our website and install it, however the Native Player is not compatible with our most recent content Widgets.

There has been some discussion on the Chrome App Crashing on some users - specifically those running Win 7.  This issue has plagued my institution for a few months.  Because of the randomness of the crashes, I have not been able to pinpoint the cause.  Nevertheless, it can be daunting to power cycle these machines at various intervals - and it always seems to happen at the worst times.

Here is my temporary fix:  Using the task scheduler, schedule a task that will shutdown and restart the machine when it is idle.

This way, even if you are not immediately available to fix the problem, the machine will only sit on the desktop for about 15 minutes.

Happy to share a walk through if needed, but its pretty straight forward

Any updates so far? I am getting the same issues with my Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines.
So far my Minix modules that is running Windows 8.1 is some what more stable than the PC Windows 8.1 machines. But they do still close, just not as often.

Let me share my temporary solution. Rise Vision Native Player is not supported anymore and guys from Rise Vision prefer Rise Vision App Player. Thing is Native Player works fine, but some of the new features are not supported. But, if you dont use those features, Native Player works even better than the app player (at least for us), because it does have a watchdog implemented, meaning if it shuts down randomly, it will automatically turn on in 2 minutes or so. Also when using player you dont have to create a tasks in task scheduler for reboot, because when you open a display page in your company, the scheduled time (3:00am by default) actually works.

So, we are using presentation that contains some pictures, videos, weather, and few html codes here and there and all that is supported by the native player. I dont want to rely on it too much since its officially not supported anymore, but if you ask me, with these features in presentation, it works better than the app player (at least for us). That moment the app gets a watchdog timer, we will automatically switch to it..

From the moment we switched from app to native player, we stopped having these problems. Well, maybe the player shuts down also, but it automatically turns on after 2-3 minutes so im not getting failure notification email anymore.

Hope i helped.

Best regards and big up to Rise Vision team :)

Fifthscreen,

Curious if you tried the Application Monitor and how it worked out for you. It looks like with the release of Chrome 44, along with some changes made to our player, things are a lot more stable. Please let us know if you're still having issues.
