Rise player Installer stops at connecting to rvaserver2.appspot.com Failed connection timed out

Can not connect to: rvaserver2.appspot.com

Update check failed.

I have whitelisted all the sites listed here and I have followed the proxy setup: http://www.risevision.com/display-firewall-and-proxy-settings/

I am trying to set this up through the schools network to be able to use Rise Vision. Using NOOB installed on the Raspberry Pi

Hi Scott,

Are you able to ping rvaserver2.appspot.com from the Pi?

Thanks.

Hi Neal,

I can ping rvaserver2.appspot.com from the Pi:

ping rvaserver2.appspot.com
PING appspot.l.google.com (74.125.24.141): icmp_req=2 ttl=41 time=26.9ms

However if I visit the webpage in a browser I get: Not Found

The server has not found anything matching the request URI

You can get technical details here.

Please continue your visit at our home page.

Thank you

There's no web page for rvaserver2.appspot.com, so its no surprise you get a message like that in a browser.

While I know you said that you went through the firewall/proxy page.  Can you check to ensure that the change to remove the https (changed to just be http) from the URL was saved in the installer?

Scott,

I have been trying to replicate this with my Pi and so far everything works fine for me when used behind a Proxy.  Is there anything else installed with this Pi, or removed from the Pi when it was first set up?

I have installed Chromium however it wasn't working before either. I have followed the Rise Vision optimisation instructions and the VNC installer. Thanks for your help.

Can you check the  /home/pi/.config/autostart directory for a Rise Vision Player file?  If you open it do you see the following content;

[Desktop Entry]Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Rise Vision Player
Comment=
Icon=
Exec=sudo /home/pi/rvplayer/rvplayer /S
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=

Thanks for the update.

The only real difference I can spot between what you have here, and what my Pi shows is the lines beginning with resolving and connecting.  Mine only has Connecting, but it is reporting connection to my proxy, not directly to rvaserver2.appspot.com (mine is posted below)

Connecting to 192.168.1.50:6588... connected.
Proxy request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK

Saving to: `STDOUT'

Based on this comparison, it appears that the Player is trying to bypass the proxy.  Would you mind going over all the proxy settings for the Pi listed here again.
Thanks
