Rise chrome extension fails to start on reboot

I removed the rise player app and installed the chrome extension version per rise vision documentation. Since doing this I’m having some trouble with the rise extension loading when the computer reboots. Chrome is loading, just not the rise extension. We have installed the recommended application monitor but it doesn’t always work for the extension (it does work for chrome). Any advice? Windows 8.1.

Also, is there any info on a the new rise player currently in development?

Hi Zalmyk,

Are you able to get chrome to run on restart? If yes then you must be missing the argument part. If you right click on the rise chrome app player, you can find the same in target option something similar to like this

--profile-directory=Default --app-id=mfpgpdablffhbfofnhlpgmokokbahooi

you should add this also for the risevision chrome app to start.

XD thanks for the response. Yes, i have the argument setup correctly. What i observed was that is it works most of the time (starts up and boots rise with chrome) but fails about 5% of the time. Only chrome starts but not the rise extension.

Hi Zalmyk, have you noticed any pattern to when this happens?  Is this during a manual reboot or do you have a scheduled task set up to reboot nightly?

Alex, no pattern that I'm aware of. It does work on manual reboot. I believe this happened on a unscheduled reboot.

Hi Zalmyk, if this happened on an unscheduled reboot, what type of reboot was that - was there a loss of power or some event that abruptly shut down the machine?  Was there any message on the browser window that said something along the lines of Chrome not closing correctly?

In addition, do you have a scheduled task set up to reboot nightly?

Upon further review this is not only happening because of a reboot. I've had 6 screens do this over the past 24 hours and not because of restarting. Is there anything i can do to check why this would be happening? and what's the best way to fix?

I believe going back to old RV player might be the solution.

Zalmyk,

When this happens, can you bring up Task Manager and see how many Chrome instances / Rise Player instances are being shown? And let us know if there are multiple instances of each?

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin, I see four instances of chrome. (one app for but for processes)

Zalmyk would you be able to provide a screenshot of the chrome console?  While the four instances are running, start another chrome instance and navigate to chrome://inspect then click on Apps on the left and choose the first link under Rise Player.  At that point the chrome console should be displayed.

Attached. I had 3 more failed displays this morning. 2 of them had 2 instances of chrome and one display had 3 instances of Chrome.

Hi zalmyk, from the screenshot you provided it looks like there's only one instance running (under Apps).  It's normal for a number of background processes to run.

If the application monitor isn't starting the app perhaps the application monitor's settings are incorrect.  Could you double check the settings?

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing the same issue as described in this thread.

I recently had to change to the chrome extension version of the riseplayer, vs the native player. I had to due to the fact that the native player no longer supports windows 7 and in particular was preventing the web widget from functioning.

Since switching yesterday, I had every single display experience the same issue as described by zalmyk.

However I was able to pinpoint it to the automatic restart function that you can set up in each rise display section.

In addition, I have noticed that this happens randomly over the last 24 hours as well. Next time I see it I will try to take a screen shot as well to showcase any problem if there is one.

For now, I have disabled the restart function on every display that has the extension. I will see if this helps.

I don't mind manually rebooting every display since, my team and I monitor every display daily.

I will be adding another post, since I am experiencing other issues other than the reboot one.

Regards,
David

HI David,

There are a lot of details in this thread.  Would you mind describing your own issue specifically so that we can be clear and then go from there to make suggestions based on those details?

Thanks zalmyk,

I see there is a lot of discussion there. I will try the suggestions provided to see if that helps.

zalmyk,

Checking in, were you able to get your situation remedied?
