I've only been using RiseVision for a few days, and I see the same questions asked lots of times, but no firm answer.

Because the Pi is not a speed demon, and because we do not want to video hosted on an external service, I would like to retrieve it from the Pi itself.

Documentation is non-existent on this.

As a test, I started with just a single image.  The user interface on the editor only allows the option of URLs, but perfectly valid URLs are rejected. e.g. file:///data/test.jpg

I tried the above url on the Raspberry Pi locally in the browser and it worked fine, but it will not work with RiseVision.

Hi there,

Local hosting of media on a Media Player is not something that we test or support, so I don't have much information for you on enabling your Media Player to serve it's own content.

From the Image Widget perspective, you might want to try clicking Remove Validation to ignore the URL rejection. Alternatively, you may be able to display an image hosted locally by using the HTML Widget and pointing an image tag to your locally hosted file.

Good luck!
