I have 4 reports of displays at 3 different venues going to the load/wait screen. In some cases the player has died completely/ All are ASUS chromebox running Ubuntu.

Was there an RVPlayer software package update today?

Dave,

No updates today. You mention Chromeboxes running Ubuntu, are you sure about that? Are these modified Chromboxes?

Yes they are modified. I am sure of it.  I see that the updater reports that there was/is a release on 1/27, but that release appears to not in the stable channel correct?

Dave,

What updater reports are you talking about? Where are you seeing these?

What version of Rise Player are you running? Rise Linux Player, or the Rise Player Chrome Application?

We did have an issue with Viewer that was affecting players adversely. Certain presentations were only showing a white screen, you can read about that here. This happened if the PUD Placeholder was set to be the same as a placeholder that had Visible unchecked. If this is the issue, it's fixed now, you should just need to reboot your media players.

RisePlayer 2015.10.12.15.11
Viewer Version:1-06-201601281826

All are "native" Linux players

Does not appear to be the same issue as reported in the "Working Presentation now displays white screen". We were not getting white screens.

Instead, the presentation would run and then after a few hours, it would go grey and cycle the loading gif forever. When rebooted, it would return to presentation and then eventually repeat the loading screen behavior.

What I did was break into the rvplayer chrome instance. Kill Java and all Chrome instances in the terminal and then run ./rvplayer in hopes of reloading whatever pieces of whatever install did not install properly. Basically shooting in the dark.

When forcing the update, what we see in the console is:

So that console entry is what caused us to believe change might have been afoot.

Side note: We do have a number of presentations where placeholders contain elements that are not visible or where distribution is set to "none".

As soon as we manually kicked the players, the problems appeared to abate. I will let you know what we see over the course of the evening.

Sorry. Problem just presented on a number of remote displays: Screen capture from teamviewer on remote host.

Yep. Problem resurfaces every 20 min. Like clockwork. But only on 2 displays. The other 10 are hanging on.

Hi Dave,

We're sorry about this.

Since we are working with 2 instances of Rise Player in the log, I would try reaffirming the uninstall by killing the java processes again and completely removing the rvplayer and any other instance of Rise Player remaining on the system. Then try installing. I'd also be mindful if the player is installed under another user on that system, basically rule out all pathways.

Let me know how you make out, otherwise I'd also try opening console on that player and see what the log says there.

After you reinstall the player, open the rvplayer directory and locate risedisplaynetwork2.ini. Add:
browserarguments=--remote-debugging-port=9876 to the last line in the file and save. Run the player, then open up a browser window and enter
localhost:9876 into the browser bar. Open the console (View > Developer > Javascript Console) and kindly forward the log so our apps team can take a closer look for you.

Thanks!

Ashleigh

Dave,

If you have a few minutes, I'd like to set up remote access to one of these media players to see if we have a more widespread issue. Could you please email support@risevision.com at your earliest convenience and I'll take a look at what's going on? Just put Attention: Blake in the message.

Thanks!
