Questions about Video

I have some questions about video in Rise Vision.
When I first started in my position two years ago, I was able to have a "Video" option in a placeholder sequence and paste the direct URL of the video to play for advertising presentations (essentially just a slideshow of images and videos). I haven't been able to find that option in a while, so if I needed to add a new video to the sequence, I would add "Content" > free Video Widget > direct URL of the video. Am I doing this correctly for a slideshow-type presentation with videos and images? If you'd like to see the presentation, I made a copy of it and titled it "Copy of Fargo Sign 2." You can see I put a video second in the sequence through the free Video Widget, and the other videos say "Video" as its file-type since they were put in the sequence a while ago.
We are also most likely going to be using Rise for presentations where a video of a menu board will be either full screen or part of the screen playing all day or for most of the day. I've tested this type of presentation with an image placeholder on one side and a video through free Video Widget on the other side, and it worked very well in the preview without any black screen issue when looping the video file. A test example is currently called "Video test" in our Presentations (ignore the fact that the video part is not the correct size, it was just for testing!).
My boss was wondering if these "free" video display options will be changing and if we should upgrade to paying for services if they will. I do know that it's 10$ per month for storage, but we have been using our own file upload system for our files; Putting the images in by direct URL and putting the videos in the free video widget by direct URL has been working well. We just wanted to make sure of things because of Rise's recent/future upgrades. Does the 10$ for storage include anything else worth while? Or is there anything else you can recommend?

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for writing. I've looked at Copy of Fargo Sign 2 and found it is using "Items", which have been deprecated and may be unreliable at times. You can determine you are using an older Presentation type when you login at and open your Presentation. Our system will prompt you that it contains unsupported content and redirects you to the Classic Editor.

I recommend updating all Presentations that contain this type of content to the newer Widgets. Here are 2 Rise Vision Help Center links which will help you identify a "Item" or "Gadget" and it's newer equivalent "Widget":

My Presentation contains unsupported content and Update content from a Gadget or Item to a Content Widget

Regarding paying for storage, you will likely see an increase in performance with Rise Storage simply due to content, like images and videos, being hosted on the same servers our Presentations are, than if you were using something like OneDrive or YouTube (for example). However, with the way you have inserted the videos alongside text and images, that will work just fine. We've designed the Presentations to work just as you have described.

If you are interested in upgrading to a paid service, I can ask a member of our Customer Success team reach out. They specialize in assessing your needs and matching you to a product that works for your organization. Let me know if you'd be interested!
