I am deploying an android powered RiseVision network and I want to learn programming so I can more effectively maintain and troubleshoot. What programming languages should I learn? I am a total N00b when it comes to programming. Its something I have always wanted to learn, and I figure this might be a practical way to get started. Thanks

Hi there Allen,

We're not experts in Android, however I'm hopeful a lot of users in here may be able to offer some assistance in this matter.

To get familiar with how Widgets and Rise Vision Apps are built, I would suggest checking out our Github repo, and look at the tools recommended for building in there. Notice that the Rise Vision App is built and maintained with the tools listed here:

I hope that helps!

I will say even coming from some programming background, it's quite a bit to bite into. For a total n00b, I'd suggest getting familiar with some vanilla javascript, html, and css. (W3Schools is good for individual portions, FreeCodeCamp or similar is a good resource to learn how they all interact) Once you have a handle there, jump into something like writing a widget. I'll take this moment to plug the Hello World widget (and tutorial) my friend Stephen did some time ago..

As for programming on Android.. if you have some of the basics of the pieces above, you might be able to do something with PhoneGap (which uses js, html, and css), or at least have a better base for coding natively if you wanted to expand that route. Good luck :)

Thanks for the information. I will start with javascript, then hopefully progress from there. It looks like it will be a long road...
