Problems with Calendar Widget on Rasp Pi

When using a slide with the new google calendar widget, I notice that the slide that contains the widget will not load consistently, instead the page just displays a white blank page. Sometimes it does load correctly.. To troubleshoot, I dup'd the slide and removed the widget and that slide shows up just fine, consistently.. Appears to be an issue with the calendar widget loading..The old gadget loaded after the page loaded, however the new gadget seems to display calendar on load time...Other Pi users seeing this issue with new calendar widget? I am using the "week" view, Thoughts, comments are welcome. Maybe have to find another way to display calendar events (webpage) if I cannot resolve.

Terry,

I'm going to do some testing on our local Pi with calendars today. I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks for looking into this. My other post has version information. I am uploading an image of what the display looks like ..Again its inconsistent. (which is bad for me since my singage is planned for church setting. I dont want this bug impacting my deployment/launch. Sometimes the presentation slide renders fine, other times I get the blank screen.

Thanks for the link.

We're going to try your Presentation over here to see if we can replicate what you're seeing.

Thanks.

I haven't been able to exactly recreate this, but am fairly close.

What I see happening is that when the Pi starts up after a restart, the Presentation will appear (except for the calendar), and then go to a white screen.  After about 2 minutes, the entire Presentation will appear and everything looks fine.

After bringing this up to a developer, this process is likely a result of the Pi just being generally slow.  I haven't encountered any errors with the Player during this testing.

If you leave the screen alone, does the Presentation come back completely on its own after a few minutes?

I have the slide within a group of other slides that rotate every 60 seconds.. When the bug happens, on occasions the full slide will pop in briefly before the next slide is due up...but since time is so short, in most cases it just proceeds to next slide. I can adjust the times to see if it eventually pops in if given enough time.. I really wish the background image would at least display (like old gadget), instead of the complete blank screen...Is there anything your developer can suggest to trap whats going on...why does cause the screen to go completely blank for so long?

I had already asked if there was anything we can do to capture what the Pi is doing in this circumstance and they weren't aware of any additional steps that could be taken.

Like I said earlier, it could just be a matter of the Pi being slow and having to load the calendar.  After it is loaded, it seems to be work just fine.

I am hoping that the developer can continue to optimize this new Google Cal widget to work better on PI devices. The RV service appears to be highly valuable to small business and non profits, however having to purchase higher-end media devices just to get RV standard widgets working correctly is a bit of a disappointment. I realize working woth Googles API v3 is a pain. I also like FREE so I'm not complaining at all...

I think for now, my plan is to put this "Events" slide at the very beginning of presentation schedule so that it works through this initial "loading bug/timing" at RVPlayer startup instead of mid-way through deck. That will at least mask the issue for my audience since hopefully Pi will start up at least 15 minutes prior to planned usage. (Church service).

Please let me know if something is uncovered that improves the widget load time for Pis.
