Problem with Image Folder Widget

I am using the Image Folder widget, I have selected a folder with 10 images all around the 200K mark and set the display to random. When I preview in Risevision edit mode it works fine... But on the actual display it only displays the first image - a different random image each time - but only the one image for the full duration.

John, what is the duration set on the Placeholder in which you have the Image Folder widget, and what is the duration you have set in the widget?

45 seconds on the placeholder and 2 seconds duration in the widget. I have also tried changing the order from random to A-Z and Date order.

Have you tried increasing the duration in the widget, for instance, to 10 seconds?  2 seconds is extremely fast.  Try it with the widget being the only item in the placeholder and set to Play Until Done and 10 seconds for the widget duration and see if it makes a difference.

Hi - I had set the duration to 2 seconds as the image wasn't changing at 10 seconds so I tried a shorter duration. I have now set to 10 seconds and made that the only item in the place holder and set to play until done - and it is working,  but when I add other items it stops working.

Hi John,

That isn't something I see happening when I use the Image Folder widget; however, we just this morning deployed a new version of the Image Folder widget, so can you reboot your display(s) and then see if that makes a difference with the new widget?  Also, if you are using Chrome App Player on Windows, can you make sure you have a scheduled task set up to reboot your display(s) nightly?

Hi Alex

I'm using the Chrome player - I have rebooted and it seems to be working now to some extent, it's playing the first couple of images before moving on to next item in the playlist, despite setting to play until done. I'll go back and double check these settings. Thanks for your help

John,

I realize that this is a very old topic but I'm doing some curating and noticed this thread was still in progress. Are you still having any issues with the image folder widget since the update? I'd like to take a stab at trying to replicate so I can get issues logged for our developers.

Thanks.
Hi John, I added the folder widget and included some pictures and all I get is the background in the presentation. Do you know why this is happening?

No problem!
Hi Blake,
I requested a OS upgrade for our Cenique C110 and was told by Cenique that the C110 has 4.2 OS and it cannot be upgraded? Was told that the C410 has 4.4 OS. I now would need to purchase a new media player in order for the Image Folder Widget to work?
This Cenique C110 was purchased in November of 2014. This can't be an older player version, can it? It's still being sold in the Risevision store.

Silvana,

Sorry for the slow response, it was also my understanding that the C110 with the 4.2 update would be capable of showing the Image Folder Widget. I see from Cenique's website on what Widgets will run (https://cenique1.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201124809-Will-my-content-run-), the Image Folder Widget is not listed there.

I have reached out to support@cenique.com to see if they can clarify if this device can run the Image Folder Widget or not, and if they can put that answer in here so all users can be aware.

One option you have while we are waiting on Cenique would be to use the Cenique Image Gadget, this only works with Cenique Players, and is available in our older Editor: https://rva.risevision.com.

When building your Presentation, you can add it through the Content menu.

I hope that helps, and I look forward to hearing from Cenique!

Cenique Media Players currently are shipped with Android OS 4.2 or OS 4.4.
All C110's ship with OS 4.2.
All C610's ship with OS 4.4
Currently the C410 ships with 4.4, though C410s from 2014 and early 2015 shipped with 4.2.

Cenique Android Media Players support some Rise Vision Widgets and if the Widget does not operate it is usually due to incompatibility with the OS version.

The Rise Image Folder Widget is only supported on Cenique media players with OS 4.4.

The Rise Image Folder Widget is NOT supported on Cenique media players with OS 4.2.
This includes all C110's and C410s shipped in 2014 and early 2015.

For additional questions, please contact us at: support@cenique.com

Thanks, Cenique Support

Hi,

I am currently seeing the same behavior as the original poster. Preview of image folder widget is working fine, but in situ with RiseVision Player on Windows, I am getting inconsistent behavior, most of the time just the first image in the set, occasional image changes but not necessarily at the interim in the widget, and sometimes a blank screen with an error about the folder not existing. A restart always fixes the folder not existing error, but the slide behavior is always erratic.

One slightly different setup, is that the project is 3 1920x1080 wide, with 2 Image Folder widgets, but again things work fine in preview.

Happy to share product ID and info.

Best,

Dale Bradshaw

Dale,

When you say it is the Rise Vision Player on Windows, I assume that this is not a Cenique Player, is that right? As from Cenique's response above, some of their Players will not play this Widget at all.

Any chance you could shoot a link to your Presentation Preview so we can have a look?

Thanks!

Hey Ashleigh,

Not sure if I should start a new issue, but I'm continuing to get errors that the selected folder does not exist in random image folder widget instances after the presentation runs for several cycles (ie hours). Nothing has changed on the back-end and it works correctly after restarting Rise viewer. I can continue to work around the issue but I figured you should get a heads up.

Thanks,

Dale

Hi Dale,

Could you elaborate on "Often,  the first few passes of a presentation will have a blank background." I'm not quite sure of the nature of the problem here. Are you referring your schedule, or a specific presentation?

Also, there has been an update rolled out for rise cache, could you please download the new player that is available and let me know if this solves your "Folder does not exist" error? https://help.risevision.com/user/create-a-display

Thanks!

Ashleigh

Thanks for the reply Ashleigh.

To be more specific, the schedule has several presentations with multiple image folder widgets. Everything works as expected after a restart. After running for a while, this varies in time but as an example 1 or 2 hours later, the image folder in seemingly random image folder widgets will have stopped with a blank background and error text indicating the folder does not exist. At any given time it is only 1 or 2 instances of 18-20 image folder widget instances. No changes have been made in storage or the presentation. After a player restart things work as expected.

I updated the player this morning from the Display page in an attempt to make sure I was using the latest updates. I haven't seen this problem in the interim so I'll follow up if I continue to see problems after the update.

Best,

Dale

Dale,

Thanks for the information.

We kindly ask that you switch your Image Folder Widgets to Image Widgets. See: https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/managing-images-in-your-digital-signage-just...

In the new Image Widget, you can select a folder option to display your content. The Image Folder Widget that you are using is outdated and has since been deprecated.

Let me know if updating your widgets resolves the issue.
