Presentation Showing as White Screen

My video presentation (that was a black screen a few weeks ago https://community.risevision.com/rise...) is now showing as solid white, as if it cannot find the content.

The files are stored in Rise Storage, and the presentation works when previewed on my local machine. The player also responds to all reboot and restart commands nearly instantly so I do not think it's a communication setting. I don't know what happened (again) to make this very static presentation stop working.

Hi Mike,

I totally understand the frustration. I'd like to get some more information from your end. Have you tried any other videos on this display? Do they work?

I'm assuming since you say the presentation is solid white, there are no error messages, is this correct?

Hi Blake;

That's correct, there is no text on the screen, just solid white. I don't have any other videos in WEBM format on Rise Storage to try, this is the one that has been playing since we started with Rise Vision last year.

Just tried deleting / reinstalling the software on the display with no luck. It looks like it's loading but then goes to the pure white screen, no text.

If I add another presentation to the schedule that plays without issue.

If I use the "Android Video Widget" I get a black screen with no content (after a flash of it saying it's downloading content).

If I use the "Video Widget" I get the white screen with no content.

I removed the presentation from the schedule, and then deleted it. I created a new one and chose the template "Full Screen Video", deleted all but the first video from the four that are pre-loaded in the template and added that presentation (with the sample video that came with it) to the schedule. I then rebooted the screen.

Sample video, that again plays in preview does not show, just pure white again. The screen does dim and flicker, I presume as the much shorter sample video loops. Though again, the only thing visible is an all white screen.

Mike,

I've got your presentation up an running locally. The video is playing with no problem. Is your media player on wifi or a hardwired network connection?

It's on wifi (has always been) and is about 20 feet (line of site) with the nearest AP.

Wait no, I'm sorry this one is hardwired. Our other screens are wifi.

I've put a generic slide show on the screen now as we have a board of directors meeting tomorrow and it needs to look like something other than a snow storm.

Mike, totally understand. I've emailed you some directions. Whenever you're ready, please let me know and we'll move forward. If you need to wait until after the meeting, that's fine.

Blake we have a similar issue where about a week ago we had to remove all video widgets form all presentations as they all show white. They were working the week prior and now it is occurring on all displays, windows and linux.

We are now without video content on three nwtworks. All displays are on wifi. Problem is replicate blue in the lab as well.

Hi Dave,
Could you please advise which sub companies the presentations are in and we can investigate further. Are these all under the 6 Signs parent company and if so, which presentations? Thanks!

Hi Blake,
I'm experiencing this on one of my media players. I'm using the latest player version, the funny thing is...it was working fine last night. Let me know if I can be of any help. I am on a LAN, but am testing WiFi now....it looks like the .webM video's are downloading properly into the cache file.
Thanks,
Joe Kirchner

Very good, I appreciate the help Blake! Now that you're back in control of which Chrome version you're operating on, is it possible to roll back in the meantime? I assume that last night was when the Chrome player changed?
Thanks,

Joe,

I don't believe a rollback is planned at this time. I'm testing a workaround for users with incompatible hardware right now.

No problem Blake. What's interesting is the latest Chromium 50.x played webM video's via Rise Vision CAP without issue. I believe you're working off the same version with the installer-lnx-64.sh script?

Also, another thing I've been thinking about...with the little bugs that we run across, not this one but times before where "latest version" produced some unwanted circumstances in the presentations. Is it at all possible to get a version number running, that would mean that minor Chromium updates such as this one change a part of your version or build number? Or is it possible to display the Player Version somewhere other than the Rise Admin section " 2016-04-22-19-30" Say on the installation splash screen? Also what do these numbers represent? I understand the date section, but if you've updated Chromium, then I would assume the date should change?

Last question, does the latest Rise Player version still follow the Rise Admin Browser Upgrade commands? So that, if I had my test player set to Do Not Upgrade, this Chromium flag issue would not have affected it.

Thanks for your time in reviewing all of my questions Blake,
Joe Kirchner

Blake, should I attempt to disable the GPU for the Chromebox white screen as well?

Joe,

Regarding your first questions, I'll have to get a player developer to answer those questions for you. I'm afraid I don't have that information.

The Player Version: settings in the old displays application are not respected in Rise Player, so setting it to Do Not Upgrade would not have avoided this.

Dave,

I considered having you add --disable-gpu to EXEC= portion of .config/autostart/ but, this would be negated with any future upgrades.

Our developers are working on a build with Chromium 51. We hope to be able to test it tomorrow.

Hi Blake,
To report, redownloading and reinstalling the 64-bit Rise Vision player has fixed the issue. It seems Rise rolled back to Chromium 49 to fix some issues.
https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/in-case-you-missed-it-for-the-week-ending-ju...

I am curious why the existing Rise Vision player didn't detect a newer version during the Rise Player Startup Process. I had to delete the rvplayer and re-download the shell script. Can we get some clarity around the "Do Not Upgrade" settings being re-instated and what the Rise Player Startup Process is checking for during startup, is a rollback on Chromium not achievable through this process?

Lastly, I want to reaffirm the player version number sequence questions above. Have your developers gotten back to you?

Thanks for fixing the issue so fast!

Blake, when is the rollo ut going to be completed? I'm still waiting to get my fireplace display back up and running.

Mike,

It's likely that it will be at 100% within a week or so. If you want to update, you can run the installer with the additional flag of -- --rollout-pct=100 to get the latest version.

Just to clarify: Chrome 51 has not rolled out yet and User Managed Player Browser settings have no effect, correct?

Dave,

The current player is rolling out with Chromium 49. User Managed Player Browser settings have no effect, and are not included in the displays.risevision.com app.
