Preload presentation schedule in advance?

I'm very new to this system and was just wondering if the player will pre-load any schedules and associated content in advance or if it simply downloads content as it's run and will only ever cache the current schedule?
Thanks in advance for any info you can give, very excited to get to grips with this system!

James,

Video and Images will be cached on a Windows or Linux Player using the Rise Cache mechanism. Other content may be cached in the running Chrome browser instance, but the Display requires the Internet to see the Schedule it is in, the content to download and update, etc. For that reason, it's recommended that it be connected to a valid Internet connection at all times.

Does that answer your question?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Robb, that sounds like good news to me, we would be using the Windows player which I am just about to test.

Our screens are mobile so whatever system we use we can't always guarantee a connection. For that reason we simply need to plan ahead on our end so that we always connect at least a day in advance to update the scheudle/cache when a connection is available.

Thanks again!

Hey James,

Rise (to my knowledge) will not work without an active internet connection... even if there is info in the cache. When the box first boots, it will connect to their servers to determine the content to play. It will then download anything it needs. If items are already in the cache, it won't re-download those items. Still though, the initial internet connection is needed. I'm with you, I'd love for RV to work as a stand-alone offline player at times. Especially when the content is just images that won't change, I feel requiring an internet connection is overkill. I'd love to be told if I am mistaken..

Hi Wendi, thanks for the info, looking over Robb's response again this sounds like what he was trying to tell me. I optimistically read 'recommended that it be conected' to mean it was optional. Probably not. :( I'm testing now but frustratingly I'm testing remotely so I can't disconnect the player machine from the internet to see if the content loads or not as I'll get cut off!

I'm also noticeing that videos in playlist appear to 'load' each time they're run (with a  black screen and a turning wheel icon) I guess these are loading locally from the chache rather than from the server as suggested, but even so we run lots of very short videos and this would be too detrimental to the quality of the display. Is this break in the playlist unavoidable?

Sorry to confuse you James, I'll choose my words more carefully next time :).

Wendi is exactly right, the network is required in order for the Presentation to run successfully.

That is accurate that the videos are loading from the cache and that loading animation typically goes by pretty quickly, and there are several issues that can increase that time delay, like the strength of the machine, etc. If these videos don't change often, could you compile them together into one large video file? This way there would be no loading animation between each.
