More problems.

Come in today and neither of our main displays are displaying content correctly. The background images (Using Image Folder Widget) are blank and half the slides are not displaying, instead showing a message 'Please wait while your image is downloaded.'

I've restarted the presentations, restarted the machines and both issues persist.

They were running fine yesterday with the same content. Nothing changed overnight.

Nothing wrong with our network either, we're having no other issues.

Glen,

Thanks for reporting this.  Can you provide a link to the offending presentation so we can look at it?

Hi Tommy,

I'm running the About H-OI Presentation Presentation over here on Windows Chrome App Player and Linux Chrome App Player, and everything appears to be running for me no problem. I wonder if this is a networking issue where the files are being blocked.

I also noticed that I am on a newer version of the Chrome App Player than you appear to be, so I wonder if anything is blocking the upgrade process of the Chrome App Player.

Can you confirm that all of these appropriate sites are allowed access through your firewall or network security: https://help.risevision.com/user/create-a-display

Thanks!

Thanks Robb, it's very helpful to us, we are focusing on the network problem on this case, btw, how to change the method from Image Widget caching to Image Folder Widget caching? what's the different? thanks.

Hi Tommy,

Our Image Widget and Image Folder Widget uses rise cache. The difference between the two widgets is the amount of images you are using essentially - our Image Folder widget allows you to cache your storage folder on Rise. If you use the Image Widget, you can add images individually as well as use third party links.

Does this answer your question? Let me know If I've misunderstood, not quite sure what you mean by "change the method between caching" :)

Thanks! Also, let us know if addressing your network helps.

Thanks Ashleigh, your answer is quit clearly. :)
Another question is: Current we're using the the way of "Image Folder Widget", how to change it to be the way of "Image widget"?

Hi Tommy,

To change the widget you are using, you will need to delete the widget you are currently using add a new widget to your placeholder.

You can do this by opening the placeholder, clicking "add" and then "content" from the dropdown. Our store window should open where you can search for "Image Widget". In our updated Image Widget, you are able to upload an image folder too. See: https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/managing-images-in-your-digital-signage-just...

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Many thanks !
Another question: Would you please advise if we need to pay extra expense when change the widget mode?

Can you tell where your images are saved to ?
On Rise cloud storage or on an external (to Rise) server.
Please read the thread 'Various issues with Rise today. Preview and ChromeOS showing up a white page' I posted yesterday.
Looking to the Chrome console when previewing a presentation, there are some error messages about CORS (cross origin HTTP request). For instance (here for a MP4) :

XMLHttpRequest cannot loadhttps://media.solvay.com/permalinks/domain1446/2015/12/16/b8r4hpvye9-581-Video_voeux_Solvay_2016/581.... No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'http://s3.amazonaws.com' is therefore not allowed access.

But anyway the MP4 loads.

I don't know what's wrong. Maybe the widget is not able to run completely and the caching mechanism does not work correctly. So, the widget would display the image but not cached and that is the reason why you get   'Please wait while your image is downloaded.' (I also experience it in preview mode).

Another possibility would be that the caching simply does not work in preview mode (it would make sense since the rendering is not done by the Rise player). Anyway, yesterday, we got very strange behavior both in preview or display using RiseVison client player.

Theirry,

Images saved to Storage are store in Google Storage. You can verify that by looking at the URL for a file in Storage. When they are downloaded to the Display, they will be in the Rise Cache folder on the Display.

Did Alan's answer in that other thread referring to the CORS response answer your question? Specifically this part:
--------
How images are requested in Preview is different from when requested by Rise Player. If your server does not allow CORS the images will not appear. When the same content is ran on Rise Player CORS is not an issue because there is not a cross domain request. Our caching mechanism will make a direct request to the file on your server.
--------
Please let us know.

Thanks!

I recently discovered the problem with one of my older presentations. It was working fine before, but just the last week I discovered it was not showing good portion of images... And I cannot figure out what is wrong with it. Everything seems to be OK, all the links... image files are OK... I am not getting why images are not showing. There must be shoe images right next to promotion messages. It must look like that: http://propagandaworxcom.ipage.com/PRODO/img/presentations/sale-pre/sale-presentation.html

but this is what I get now:

Hey Darius, just opened the Preview and images are showing for me. Do you get the same thing using Incognito mode? http://www.screencast.com/t/TNNmbkpF7

OK, so out of curiosity I pushed presentation to one of my displays and it works just fine. I guess there is no problem then with it. But really, why it is acting this weird in preview and on different computers. Does this has something to do with my Google account?

Could be something with browser cache. Might want to try clearing it.

And just FYI - I'm on Chrome Version 48.0.2564.109 (64-bit)
