I have just found out that RV has officially stopped support for the Chrome App. As a long time user of RV, and one who often recommends the use of RV I am very saddened by the decision to stop support for the Chrome devices, and want to encourage reconsideration.

I understand that from a development point it may be harder to develop for, however for your many of your end-users it is an ideal device.

Hi Bjorn,

Trust me, it was a very hard decision to make to stop supporting the Chrome App Player, but it was one we felt we had to make to ensure the reliability of the Rise Vision Player for everyone using our platform.

You can read the original post here for more in depth discussions about this.

8 months further and still using many ChromeOS devices. Please reconsider again? I do not have other devices that i can support since we have very little budget and human resources. Chrome devices are so great!

Danny,

We will be sure to let everyone know if anything regarding Chrome Devices changes, however at this time they are still not supported. You can read the original post here for more in depth discussions about this.

Since RV decided temporary not to support ChromeOS as a platform (now 2 years ago), there have been no problems with the player on all of my 20 ChromeOS devices. So please start supporting this beautiful platform again. I love Rise Vision, I love ChromeOS. Together a perfect couple :-)

I have to agree. We deployed 40 Chromeboxes on 7 campuses before the decision was made to discontinue support for Chrome OS.

Today, we're still running these Chromeboxes as our only RV media players.  Since the money for this project has already been spent, we've just got to make them work, regardless, until the next hardware replacement cycle/budget comes around. And we've got another year to go, I believe.

So of course, my worry is that the  last version of Chrome OS player that your company released is eventually going to be so far out of date that our Chromebox media players will start failing.  It could happen any day I suppose. If this does happen, we'll go dark for the first time in over 2 years and lose a lot of the momentum and trust we've gathered getting our campus community to support digital signage.

I know there were legitimate reasons to not support Chrome media players. But they are such good low cost media devices, and many developers do continue to develop for the Chrome OS.

Are there any programmers  out there that would be willing to maybe update the app to a recent version so that it won't just stop working on us suddenly someday soon? It may buy us more time too,  to last long enough to reach that hardware replacement time.

Sorry for the long message ...

Thanks much,
Robert
