Hi ML PDSB,

We don't test on Lubuntu 14.04, so I have no information on why Rise Player would be displaying a black screen. It may have to do with incompatible drivers, or a needed resource being unavailable. I would encourage you to install Ubuntu 14.04, which is our supported Linux OS.

Thanks!

OK I tried on Ubunto 14.04 32, 64 all have the same issue ---- as soon as the RV player starts up, it goes to black screen with only the mouse pointer visiable. Press Ctl-Shft-Q will switch the screen back to Ubunto deskto so it seems RV is running in background.

We didnt have this issue a month ago, we installed a couple of them on Intel PCs (Ubunto any ver) they  all worked fine but all failed recently. Pls advice.

Can you let me know what content you playing on it? Is it video or image?

think I figured out the issue: it's like the Youtue widget stuck, it actually filled up the whole screen so shows black. As soon as I removed the Youtube frame on the presentation leave only Text, it shows up right away.

Hi Robb,
I've experienced this black screen issue from time to time at our Advertising Locations. I'm still testing this out, we're running full screen video's with a few full screen Google Slides. Operating on Lubuntu 14.04, which shouldn't have any major differences than Ubuntu 14.04. Using the latest Rise player, Video and Web Widgets. The only thing I can figure is that the Website Widget is causing the error. We need the Website widget to refresh every 30 minutes, so I can't change much there...but I've just unchecked Unloading website content, so we'll see if that has any improvements. All locations are hard wired, so internet connection should not be the issue.

I wouldn't mind the occasionally black screen if connection problems happen, except it gets stuck on that black screen and won't progress through the scheduled playlist. That's where the issue comes in. Restarting the RV Player immediately fixes it, you just need to keep after all displays.

Another web-based component, the RSS feed has also thrown up issues. After some time working, the RSS feed stops displaying and the screen becomes stuck on the Presentation's background image. The RSS feed Presentation is in the Schedule side as well. So the video presentation plays for 10 minutes, and the RSS Feed presentation plays in for 15 seconds, then repeat.

Thanks for your help,
Joe Kirchner

Joe,

We were able to recreate that issue, and we logged a bug for it. We will update you once we have further information.

Thanks!

Joe,

I wanted to let you know that we determined the reason for the black screen, as you have no doubt seen in my email to you. You were also affected by the same video issue that was affecting RV News, and the fix for that will be deployed shortly.

Thanks!

Hi Robb,

Sorry for getting back to you so late. I've been easing into 2017 and still need to test out the email directions that you sent me. As for seeing the black screen again, I haven't noticed it since you posted the fix. About a week ago, I also added the RSS Feeds back into circulation at one of our locations, and so far we haven't had any issues with that either.

I appreciate Rise getting the fix in place so quickly and I'll let you know how things turn out in another 3-6 weeks of testing.

Thank you,

Joe Kirchner

I've seen this in my facility as well.  I'm using Rise Sticks on Windows 10.  Usually the screen is black, but I've had another that was just showing one of the images from the storage folder without moving on to the other images/presentations.  On the website, the displays are typically reporting in (not offline).  A reboot usually works to get them going but sometimes it does the same thing on a reboot.

Interesting..Michael, can you email support@risevision.com with a link to this Presentation that is causing this? I'd like to investigate to see if we have an issue.

Thanks!

I can't reproduce the issue and I haven't seen it for a few days.  I only mentioned it here as I thought it may be related to the original issue.

If I do have a presentation with issues, I will take your advice.
