Hi,

I have a weird problem. Everything was running perfectly fine until yesterday. All the videos in my presentation does not display/load in preview or published displays. The weird part is they it only plays the first video in the queue would play or load and the rest after doesn't. If I put each video in a separate presentation, it would play and load, but that means I have lots of work in setting up lots of presentations and setting it into the schedule. It won't be a solution for me as well, since I have some other placeholder along with the videos together.

Anyone experiencing this problem? Anyone know how to solve the problem? So I can have 1 presentation with multiple videos?

All my videos are in webm format. All stored in the RVstorage. File naming, there are spaces in them, but it was working before, so I don't think it's that causing the problem.

Thanks in advance...

Ben

Update: I try splitting it up in different presentation as a mention before. It doesn't work now. It first video will play in the first presentation, and the 1 video in the second presentation would not load or play.

Benjamin,

sorry to hear you are having trouble. Any chance you can shoot me a link to the Presentation preview and I will test it over here?

Thanks!

Benjamin,

One thing I did notice right away in the first Presentation is that the first video starts with: https://www.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/risemedialibrary, while all the others start with https://storage.googleapis.com/risemedialibrary.

Honestly I'm not even sure how you got that first link, but you may want to update it, just to be sure that isn't causing the issue.

I'll let you know what else I find.

Thanks!

Thanks Robb.

I have no clue too. That link was added in long ago, like last year. With the same procedures that I add in the video content into the placeholder. Others clips are added on different time after this initial clip.

I have revised the link to the first video. It seems to start with https://storage.googleapis.com/risemedialibrary....

Thanks thanks!

Benjamin,

This one has me scratching my head unfortunately. I typically don't like to recommend MP4 since we only formally support WebM, but I downloaded and tried reencoding 2 of the videos to both WebM and MP4, and so far only the MP4 ones are working.

To get this fixed ASAP, you can reencode all your videos to MP4 as that seems to work, but I am going to keep digging to see why these files aren't working as WebM.

Thanks!

Benjamin,

Actually, hold up on doing any converting. I think it may be one video specifically causing the issue.

Bear with me, I'll have an answer shortly.

Thanks Robb for your hard work to try to solve this problem. It's been bothering my team and I for like 2 days.

Also we have tried the MP4 file format, it still doesn't work when published. Also I mention that we tried 1 presentation for 1 video, it started to work, but it stop working after like 2nd or 3rd loop into the presentation.

Now my temporary work around is to encode all videos into 1 big clip. It now works, cause it's only 1 long clip in webm format. It's can only be temporary, cause some of time clips needs to be off the display at certain time.

Benjamin,

I'm not sure what the initial issue was, but here is what I did to correct:

  1. Remove all the items from the Video Placeholder by pressing Clear List.
  2. From the Add menu, DO NOT select the Video item. Instead, select Content, and then select the HTML5 Video Widget.
  3. Configure the Widget to use your video file from Storage, set it to be Play Until Done.
  4. Repeat that process for all the different videos, and everything should show up as expected
Let me know how you make out! Also I see you guys are in Scarborough, I'll have to pop in for lunch some time :)

Hi Robb,

I am experiencing a similar problem after 2 days. Not exactly the same. The videos have been looping for 2 days without any problems, but black outs starting to happen from time to time. It's random too...

I have been staring at the screen for like hours. sometimes it loop over 2 times and black screen would happen and it would not go away until it goes to another presentation. The background of my presentation is white, but that video placeholder background is black.

I can preview it without a problem, but at the display screen it just don't show up.

I have used the way you mention above, which is using the HTML5 Video Widget. The RSS feed and other works fine, and I don't see the display being blocked also. Only the video just don't show up.

I have purposely put in a video with audio in there, in the background I hear audio, just no visual (black screen). Any work around or solution to it?

I can confirm this issue, showing a white screen now. Everything shows but Video's, it doesn't matter if I'm using the older Video Gadget or the new HTML5 video Widget. Video's are in webM and have worked flawlessly for over a year.

Thank you both for the input.

The first step of getting this bug logged will be reproducing it locally with chrome's developer tools loaded, so I can see what specifically is happening. Once I can reproduce, we should be able to get it sorted out in fairly short order.

Yes, I am seeing mixed results as well. I checked all of my advertising displays and they are looking okay. We were building a new one, and it plays only Presentations and Images, any Video's show a white screen, which hangs for a bit, then it appears that the player resets itself. Testing one of my "working" presentations on the same media player and it experiences the same results. I've replicated this on 2 test units.

Originally video's were made in WMV format and converted using Firefogg..however Firefogg has disappeared...so now I am converting using Miro. I convert .m4v and .wmv to .webM using Miro.

Hi Blake,

Thanks for your help really appreciated. I am not sure which link you use, I have replace a backup presentation onto the schedule so that it runs without a problem. It runs without a problem because I have linked all videos into 1 huge long video so that it doesn't need to loop and play other videos in sequence. Cause I can't have a dead screen at the location right now, so that is the only way I can temporary make it work.

Here is the link to the presentation that should give you errors:
http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer.html?type=presentation&id=8b9e1f1b-0de8-40c8-aa4d-86e7440cccd5

http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer.html?type=presentation&id=a9112c25-7690-45ce-9bdb-6792ac666...

The error will show up randomly like after the 1st loop or 2nd loop. I had seem it show up after like the 4th or 5th loop too. I also try just preview, sometimes it doesn't trigger the problem until I put it onto the display.

If you need I can create the schedule for you so you check on your end.

Ben

Benjamin and Adgators,

Could you tell me the processor and ram specifics on the hardware you are using to run this presentation?

I am using an Intel NUC style Gigabyte with a i3 Intel Processor, 4GB of RAM.
Lubuntu 14.04, kernel 3.13.0.45, 64gb SSD HD.

This is an odd one, I noticed this situation yesterday and since then, I am not experiencing issues on our Live Advertising displays, however any new media players that I try adding and scheduling a presentation on (via giving them the proper Display ID) I get issue's with the video playback.

Here is one presentation
http://bit.ly/1FELtPJ

Note: I've tried using existing presentation (that are currently working in the field) on two separate test media players and they are still experiencing video playback issues. I've also tried the HTML5 Video Player for the video's and still get issues, same as Benjamin.

I am going to load up an older LinuxOS with old RVPlayer to see if the issue exists. I'll report back my findings once I have adequately tested.

This seems very similar to an issue I had about a month ago with a couple of media players freezing on a particular video ending and causing the display to become blocked.

Thank you for your assistance Blake!

All,

I just wanted to let you know I've finally been able to replicate this issue. I'm eliminating extraneous items from the presentation now to narrow down the cause down to the HTML5 Video Widget. I'll keep you up to date when I can get a bug logged for developers.

Thank you Blake!

To report: I know you don't offer the older Rise Vision Linux player on your site anymore, but I can confirm that the exact same presentation I sent to you has been playing 100% properly on my test media player. I have some old Clones of previous builds and currently I'm on Linux Mint 17 with the old rvplayer and running just fine.

So the problem must be with the Chrome App Player with the old video gadget?

Hi guys,

I am getting this weird error again. This time it's the HTML Video Widget too.

The symptom is the videos plays and loop for a certain amount of time, and it just give me a black screen and hold it there and doesn't loop again any more until i restart the whole the chrome app player.

The most frustrating part is the when I preview it on the viewer, it plays perfectly fine, without giving me any problem. Once it's published and sends off to my client's displays the errors pops up. Did anyone come across with this problem and have a solution to it? I kinda need an solution urgently...been trying to fix it and fiddle around with it for a fews days already.

Tested all my clips. They are the same clips I have been using, which is webm encoding.

Hi Ben,

Can you try switching to the Video item for now until the new Video widget is released?  We are releasing it soon.
