Display a specific image or page when the Internet is not available.

When the player restarts with no internet connection the screen displays an error message. Would there be an idea to create a setting for each display that would default to page or graphic (save locally) when internet connection is not found?

Zalmyk,

We don't have any plans to introduce this functionality at this time, but we will be sure to update everyone in the community if we decide to introduce it at any time.

Thanks!

zalmyk,

I think this is awesome idea. It would be nice to be able to upload custom background image/image gallery or video for less 'broken' appearance. Of course, the message must be there for the situation awareness.

Thanks Robb for responding. It would be nice to design our displays for a graceful fail.

What if Rise offered this as a premium add-on? Maybe as an app in your store? I would gladly pay a monthly license fee for all my displays if this were available (if the price was appropriate).

This idea is similar to using an image on a webpage while a video loads...

love this idea - the display could still look functional (even if it's static) to visitors to the location, but those in the know would know it's not right.

Hi all, current plan is to make the Player work offline when it starts with no Internet connection. Any content that was previously downloaded will play. We think this would be better than falling back on a default offline page. Thoughts? Thanks

Of course - that would be fantastic.  And I assume it would continue to display if the internet is lost during operation.

My only thought is to ensure that if any part of the system fails, it should have the option to fail gracefully under all circumstances to the Display and perhaps keeps an error log for troubleshooting on the backend or via online.  Having the viewing public know the their is an error is of no/limited value.

It is all exciting, but what about the content that depends on the Internet connection such as video streams or data inputs. Would be great to have as an option a nice picture staring at you than half-working presentation.

Hi Byron, That would be way better! I've been waiting for a very long time for an offline player. My suggestion was based on the assumption that we wouldn't see an offline player in the near future...

What's the ETA on the offline player capabilities?

Thanks for adding the offline player feature to your road map, Z.

I believe that some sort of error message is a must thing because, for example, some lobby people would have no idea there is something wrong with a player if it looks 'alright'

Zalmyk,

We don't have an ETA at this time, but we will be sure to let everyone know when we do. Thanks!

Also very interested in this. While most of our content will be dependant on network (we are a weather company), I'd be very happy for a graceful fail with some image. An image of my chosing in a specific local folder would be optimal. Additionally maybe some sort of code or status in a corner. So it's not obvious to customers in a shop but would provide a clue or input to IT support when the store employees call. "Code N" watermarked in a corner or something? I'm also fine with just the option of X image on network fail and providing my own watermark. Just thoughts. Would make Rise much more useful in out industries.. for example unattended machines at information centers. Certainly don't want my brand plastered on a monitor that looks broken. Thanks for considering this!
