Not possible to add company user with almost the same e-mail address

I have a user whose e-mail address I've added as a company user. The user has an e-mail address in the following format firstname.lastname@gmail.com.

This user in particular has several gmail accounts and would like to have his 2nd e-mail address also added which is in the format firstnamelastname@gmail.com, i.e. without the "dot" between firstname and lastname.

I'm not succeeding in adding this user id. The web interface claims that the user already exists. Is this a bug or might I be doing something wrong? I wouldn't be surprised if you happened to have a compare statement in which you strip out the "dot". :-)

The error message is:
apps.risevision.com says:
Error"User already exists"

Minor note: I also noted the missing white space between Error and "User already exists" in the error message...

Some additional information. The user accounts firstname.lastname@gmail.com and firstnamelastname@gmail.com are connected to firstnamelastname@gmail.com which is used to login to both accounts.

I also tried deleting the company user connected to firstname.lastname@gmail.com but I couldn't create a company user for firstnamelastname@gmail.com. I could however re-create a company user with firstname.lastname@gmail.com.

Yes, it worked fine to add a user both using firstname.lastname@gmail.com and firstnamelastname@gmail.com for which firstnamelastname@gmail.com is used to login to both gmail accounts.
