Hi, creating my first presentation and all was going well until I tried to add a youtube video. When the presentation comes to the video it does not show on my display- only a black screen with a white header. Brand new out of box C110 Android player running V4.0.7 Cenique Android Rise Player app. Operating System: Android 4.2.2
Player Version: Cenique 4.0.7

Viewer Version: 1-06-201605051355

Browser Version: Chrome 45.0.2454.101

I might have seen a post that mentions Android development is on hold? Did I make a poor purchase choice here?

Hi Phil,
Is this the new presentation in your account? It looks like it is using the Video Widget to link to a YouTube URL. We have a YouTube Widget specifically for YouTube video links - can you replace the Video Widget with the YouTube Widget and try again? Let us know how you go!

Thanks

Just to be clear.  Is the paid video widget the only way of adding Youtube videos now?

Yep, it's the option if you want to add in a YouTube video link.

Phil,

Since this is a Cenique device, another option if the YouTube Widget does not work is to use the Android Streaming Gadget that Cenique created specifically for this purpose: https://store.risevision.com/product/39/cenique-android-streaming-gadget

Let us know how you make out!

Well, the youtube video worked for the video, now the audio is very choppy. Is this pay version widget my only option?

Hi Phil,
Is the audio choppy for this particular video link or is it occurring for the other videos?

I will try a different video. Woke up this morning and the display shows "waiting for network connection". Getting frustrated

Tvio,

The embedding code? It is still there, i can see it. But I am afraid it would not work in Android, unless things have changed and now I am missing something. I am using embedded YT playlist myself in both Chrome and Windows.

As an android developer, video hasn't been bad since they now use quad cores and 2gb of ram. At least thats been with my app and the devices i run all the time. The issue here is the app from cenique and the device its on. From the looks of it, cenique is using a chrome webview library thats being added in from the app. It doesnt work well with that weak of a device. Its good for small things but video might cause issues because the resources are not there because the chrome webview is eating most of it up.

Also 4.2.2 android mini pc devices and some early kitkat devices were not great. The firmware was never fully optimized to work or had some weird issue. Mostly video. The newer devices still has some issues but they are a lot better. Also most people dont know this but webview was never updated in 4.4 and below. As standards change, things began to stop working. Specially now that rise is changing things to work with newer standards. In 5.0 and above google started updating webview. This helps but leaves out 4.4 and below devices to slowly die out. The only fix was to do a chrome webview library that ran from the app. This is what cenique did. On my app i gave a choice between the device webview or the library that i added. I did this because of the issue that presents itself in this conversation. Some devices don't do well but the ones it does work great.

Lastly, Android is not an issue. Its the china manufactures who dont take there time on getting the OS fully optimized to the hardware its using. Thats why you research and pick a brand thats always working on the firmware.

Anyway if you need answers on android, i can mostly answer them.

Thanks

Darius,

I can not see the post with the embedded code... thought it was deleted.  The video should play because the code uses web view.

Tivo,

See, this is the reason why I dropped Android devices all together. I could not get 'autoplay' to work or work without failing on, I believe, different MINIX devices. As William said, other devices do better, which I believe is true, but hey, no regrets here for trading Android to Windows )))

Yea autoplay doesnt work. You actually have to get javascript to make it play automatically. Also on android, it wasnt until 4.2 that android allowed videos to play automatically but even then it worked half the time or didnt work at all. Thats why you need javascript to start videos.

Hope that helps as well.
