No Audio from Youtube Widget

Hi,

I purchased a MXQ Android 4.4 media player device and I'm trying to play a YouTube video from the YouTube Widget. The video itself plays but there is no audio coming from the device. I've tried restarting the player and even the unit itself.

Also, as I brought to Hannah's attn that the new website UI for the YouTube widget settings does not save the volume selection. So if you put it at 100%, save it and go back in its back at 50%. I tried re-creating the presentation from the old UI which it does save the volume slider but still does not output volume to my device. Any suggestions?

Both the My Rise Player application for Android and the YouTube video widget are provided by Scott's Digital Signage, you can request support from them here.

I'll alert William to this thread as well, he's generally really quick to address any issues.

Try the My Rise Player Chrome Edition in the store to be sure its not a webview issue on the device. As far as saving the volume i will check to see if its saving or pulling from the save correctly. Im thinking its saving but when you go back to edit its not getting the correct setting from the save so it defaults back to 50. Should be a quick fix.

Thank you William. The audio is now playing thru the My Rise Player Chrome Edition...BUT the video is SUPER laggy...Going to reboot the unit and see if that helps. Any tips on if its still laggy after rebooting it?

I tested both the new editor and the old editor. The Old one works correctly but i think there is a bug in the new editor that isn't saving the info correctly and i have notified Blake on that.

On volume be sure your getting volume from the browser or another source. If you have no volume from other sources then check the volume settings on the device and see if its set to go through HDMI. Also check the tv for sound as well to be sure its nothing with it. The only other thing beside changing the app would be cable. I have had bad cables before and usually its always with ones that come from china.

Ok so here's the update: 

The My Rise Player plays the video smoothly but no audio.
The My Rise Player for Chrome plays the audio but the video is so choppy its not viewable.

I don't think the HDMI cable is the culprit in this case cause I'm getting different results between both apps...

Then that tells me its a firmware issue. Im guessing you have an amlogic device since thats usually what everyone tends to get since its the cheapest right now. Can you tell me what firmware its using, the model number, and so forth. I can check and see if there is anything new out there or if there is a fix.

No usually audio and video issues are related to either webview that is being used or codec. I have always had issues with amlogic devices that has firmware under 111k4 because the sdk it was made from had serious video and audio issues. I know this because i have 4 devices which i updated and seem to be working fairly well and are currently running video. Your firmware is based on the sdk that has issues. Im hoping the firmware from here will work with your device.

I would download the sd card version. Unzip the file and in the folder there are three other files. Take those three files and put it on a sd card thats formatted as fat32. Then in the settings of the device you should be able to go to the update section. In there you need to select the file that is zipped on the sd card and be sure to wipe everything so we know we are starting from scratch. The device should restart and update the firmware. 

Im hoping this is the correct firmware for this because all these device manufactures make clones and they might change one thing that might throw a firmware off. I have had that happen before as well. If you like to wait i can order the exact box and test myself because i have had 3 others have various issues with this box and seems to be a pattern that i might need to get one. If you want to go ahead and try the firmware update then let me know how it goes. 

Also this firmware was made from the new sdk because its 112k4 and i have all my devices are on that firmware.

FYI - The only reason I gave you the next two lines of the chip is because someone from a different forum mentioned "That means there are now 3 different RTL8188ETV in these all black MXQ boxes". So from reading that it sounds like there are 3 different revisions of the RTL8188ETV I guess...? (if this guy knows what hes talking about of course). I'm familiar with PC hardware/drivers but not Android...

Extra notes for you William,

When starting the YouTube video from the My Rise Player this is what it does...First itll show a youtube logo in bottom right corner with a small play button in middle of the black screen for about 2 seconds. Next it shows the YouTube (tv static) error page that says "An error has occurred. Please try again later" for about a second (Similar to this). Then shows an old school play icon that takes up the whole screen then plays the video. But obv still no sound. Not sure if that helps or if thats normal behavior for the My Rise Player app..

The My Rise Player Chrome starts right away, it doesnt have those 3 brief splash screens before playing the (choppy) video but the audio is clear.

Thats because its using a different webview. Android 4.4 and below had a static webview which never got updated. This means webview will always stay the same version. So when 4.4 came out, you got chrome v30 as a webview. Problem is as time goes on standards change and the old webview doesn't know what to do or is slow. The chrome edition fixes that because I'm bringing in chrome 43 as my own library. Hint the size difference of the apps. The difference with how it looks is due to the version of webview they are using. Google changed the look on chrome over the years so thats why you have a different look on both the apps with youtube and with video as well. 

Im betting after the firmware update you will get better video and audio quality in both apps. Im hoping the chrome edition is better with the firmware update because i do better with it on some of the older devices than the original. The original does better on the newer devices since webview is now updated.

Regarding the issue with settings within the new Editor Application not being saved for this widget. I've talked with William on this and one of us will be logging a defect for the developers. Keep in mind the Editor Application is still in beta.

However the website is in chinese and I cannot register cause it wants a cell # but never sends a text. I download the same file NAME from a mirror but it just puts the box in a reboot loop then goes to recovery. So im not sure if its wrong fw with same file name or if it is the same fw he provided in the link that I cannot access...

I think thats the wrong firmware because the original is dated 20150814 the one he is pointing to is 20150611 which could be correct but wifi might be changed. The one you downloaded probably was not for that box. I would send him a message again and see if he can send the 20150814 one. I couldn't download either it was slow and not there.

I did send another msg over to them. I hear what you're saying. I got the site to load and was able to translate it but to register you need a chinese phone to receive an sms to register for a baidu account :-/ Hopefully this guy will send me a mirror to download from...

Thank you for sending me the recovery and getting my box back up and running with Wifi @William!!

So im back in action as far as wifi goes but still in same boat when I created this post cause its back to the original FW. Since you have the exact same box now are you experiencing the same issues between the two players? Can you let me know when you're able to update your FW with a working wifi driver please? thank you again!!

Yea i see the issue. I also so the issue with audio not syncing with video with the chrome version as well. Im not sure why its doing that but i am looking for fixes.

Its a webview issue with the firmware. One has no audio and the chrome library has syncing issues. Im still looking at firmware that will best fit the device. It also could be a streaming issue as well to that device. Regular video works with no issue but streaming it has issues. :(
