No idea if such already exist and if it still may be named signage.

Discussing with my internal customers in the company, I realize that they are happy with the results but would love more interactivity. Of course, we might use touch screen to bring this interactivity but the cost of the screens and even more the cost for the development of a good interactive application is high.

In fact, what they would like is the ability to select and play as they want a playlist that is planned for the signage screen instead of waiting the content they want to see.

So, the idea would be to have a mobile App on a smartphone to interact. You go close the screen and scan the QR code allowing you to run the application and to see the available content. Then, the user would simply create its playlist in the preferred order. The app could be more complex with a system of queue if several users are accessing the same screen but globally, the idea is there. Finally, it somehow what Youtube allows to do. But here, we would display not only videos.

It was just to share an idea ;-)

Thanks Thierry for sharing. It will be interesting to see if anyone else has similar ideas!

What type of context/environment were you thinking for this to happen? Schools, entertainment venues..?

I was thinking to my eco-systems that is internal communication in a worldwide company.
But might apply also to schools, entertainment (movie theaters proposing trailers), ....
Today, my users say that part of the displayed content is useless and are frustrated they may not skip some played content and would prefer to select what they want to see in the channel ;-)

I'm quiet sure I have seen this in digital campaigns. It seems to be additional setup required in creating an application and then delivery via digital signage. There may be inspiration in places like AdNews, Marketing Week, portfolio and campaign type sites and see if there are similar campaigns out there and what was done to setup these campaigns.
