Is there an official Editor Feedback thread?

Two larger things keeping me from using the new edit much yet..

I can't find where to created a new Presentation using my Templates?

Same for my Custom Widgets.. since all of our presentations rely on a custom widget, I've not been able to really use it.

I know it's in beta, but so far so good guys. Just wondered if there's an official thread I could follow for updates/thoughts rather than lots of different posts.

Hi Wendi,

I'm glad you like it so far. There is no official Editor thread but maybe we'll create one, thanks for the idea.

As of right now you can't open Presentations from the Templates Shared with You section, I will pass that along as a feature request. Regarding the custom Widgets, that is planned and is in the backlog.

Thanks,
Shea

Hi Wendi,

I just wanted to let you know adding presentations from your templates has been added to the backlog.

Thanks,

Just a thought for today. Not sure if it's just me, but it seems to be pretty frustrating making presentations now-a-days since everything is a Widget.

In particular, it's difficult to see the end-product before hitting Preview. We can make some pretty complex presentations, but I feel like I'm always staring at a blank canvas. In particular, I like to make myself notes inside of a presentation. It's just a little text snippet for myself to read when viewing the presentation. It's a hidden div inside the presentation. Really just a note for myself,or colleagues, maybe for when to use the presentation, etc.

I guess it feels a lot less of a WYSIWYG-type of editor now? Even seeing background images as placeholders, nothing. I mean, it's functional, but I am glad at this point that our clients won't be integrating with the RV Editor itself. It's just difficult to visualize. Is there any hope for seeing something different in the future? You guys are doing great stuff, it was just bugging me today and I wanted to throw it out there. Rant over.. :)

Hi Wendi,

Thanks for the feedback, this is definitely a good spot for it!

As far as WYSIWYG implementation in our editor, if a request for is gains traction and support, it will definitely be brought up in our quarterly review of Feature Requests.

I have to agree with Wendi.  Though the new editor is pretty, the fact that there is no preview while creating a presentation is a step backwards.  With no preview, trying to make minor adjustments to placeholders, i.e. properly fitting text or an image in a placeholder, is much more difficult now.  Is the plan for the classic editor to be discontinued at some point in the near future?

I find the lack of WYSISYG very frustrating.

Thanks for the feedback Chris and we agree this is something we need to fix in the new editor. In terms of the old editor, yes, it will be deprecated at some point, but we have no timeline for doing that and we are quite happy to keep both running and gathering all of the feedback for the foreseeable future. Thanks!

Rather than creating a new thread, I will just add my own feedback for the new editor.

1. WYSIWYG is very important and needed, especially for things like images.
2. It needs fit to page zoom option.   I have 1080 TV's that I am creating signage for, and I cannot see the entire presentation without scrolling.  This makes it hard to design properly.  Similar frustration with the old editor.
3. The sidebar that opens and closes is very annoying especially if you want to move placeholders around.   I go to adjust a placeholder a little, and my workspace changes since it toggles the sidebar open and closed every time I click to move it.

This is all that I have for now.  As much as I want to try and use the new editor for my next presentation, I am finding it very frustrating to use in it's current state.  But if you can work out the kinks, I do think the new update has a lot of potential.

Bjorn,

Not sure how you imagine RV fitting  1920X1080 presentation preview with all the side/bottom/top/whatever bars on the screen with the same resolution. Perhaps zoom out? I already see people wining about that :)

I assume everyone serious about making digital signage presentations, or any other work with graphics for that matter, are already doing that on at least 2 monitors. So while RV is figuring that out, I recommend opening your presentation preview in a new window and dragging it to a 2nd screen. Every time you made changes just hit refresh button in the preview window. It works for me quite well.

You also can zoom out your browser tab in order to see the entire presentation preview viewport, but, honestly, there is not much to see yet, just a bunch of rectangles.

Zoom in the editor would be nice. Also a fit to size In the presentation to the public would help. That way I can have one presentation that could scale to both 1080 and 720 screens.

Bjorn,

I was looking into the scaling issue earlier for different reasons. Believe me or not, but there is no easy or sure way to scale your HTML page... which what RV presentation basically is. I do not see how RV could brake these  HTML rules for us.
This is why if you have different resolution displays, you also must make corresponding resolution presentation fort hem. OR, make fluid and responsive presentations that can flex in order to fill in given resolution.

In the new editor, how do I go about embedding a presentation? Currently we make use of this for displaying presentation in our main company. How would I do this in the new editor? Please tell me this is not a gadget that is going away.. it's very, very useful! If so, is there a widget replacement?

Hi Wendi - I think you already have your question answered in our presentation in a presentation conversation going on, but just to make sure - the embedded presentation isn't available in the new editor.  No need to respond to this - I am just answering this here in case someone else is reading this thread in the future.

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to reach out to see if you had any new feedback on the new editor at https://apps.risevision.com/editor, as we are continually updating it based on internal and external feedback. We'd love to hear what you think!

Darius, Mylife614 - work has been queued up to take care of that refresh issue you are seeing. On a side note, all images, regardless of where they are hosted, will be cached locally assuming you are using the Windows or Linux Player.

I'll post an announcement once the we've released the fix for the refresh.

Thanks!

Darius, Mylife

We just released an update to the Image Widget to eliminate the refresh you see in the Presentation. Check it out and let us know if that solves the issue you were seeing.

Thanks!

Alan,

It certainly did not solve what I see as the Video Widget problem. Preview: http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer.html?type=presentation&id=194c1432-a90e-4252-93ad-4bc66d4bd...

On the left side I have Video Widget and on the right side Video Item. Both sides are rotating thru the same set of images. What bothers me is the time Video Widget takes to push the image thru and there is virtually no delay with Video Item. The worst thing is that after the presentation was refreshed, Video Widget is taking time again to load the same images, as catch was not working at all. I am sorry Alan, but nothing in the update addressed this issue.

That would not be the problem if I were to display the same presentation all the time, but it certainly is bothersome when presentation needs to be reloaded as a part of multi-page presentation or presentation scheduled with other presentations.

In case you do not see the difference between Widget and Item on your end, as Blake said he could not, here is the video of what is going on here:  (new video) https://www.dropbox.com/s/p6yjgxfoylkb9xl/20160216_162619.mp4?dl=0

(older video) https://www.dropbox.com/home/for%20sale/share?preview=20151230_104748.mp4

As you can see there is no difference in performance.

Image Item is able to load images quicker because of two primary reasons 1) it doesn't store images in Rise Cache and 2) it doesn't do any of the checks that the Image Widget does to make sure a valid image is present and if not relay a relevant message.

By design a Presentation should not reload when in a Schedule with many Presentations. If you can give me a link to a Schedule where you are seeing that I'll take a look.

Thanks for the update! It solved the flashing - refresh issue.  There is no need for us to use the old Image Item anymore. The Image Widget is running smoothly and is stable.

Hi, was making a presentation the other day with a lot of scheduled content, both placeholders and items. I learned that we need some sort of highlighting for the left panel to mark the item I was just editing. Now they all look very alike and it is hard to tell the difference. This also kinda related to another problem, somebody complained about not too long ago and I joined in. It would be great to have just one click for editing instead of 2... Item Name and Time Button. Now, while Time button have very light color difference where you can tell apart from just touched item from others. But as soon as I select Item Name (I need this in order to edit it when duplicating items) that highlighting is gone and it is impossible to tell after all the UI popups closed, which item I was just editing. The workaround would be actually taking physical notes on a piece of paper, but that is just a bit ridiculous... especially considering the concept behind RV's workflow.
