Need solution to re-size presentation for multiple resolutions

I know there is the "percentage" option to create presentations and placeholders, but this method fails with the RSS widget and others.

On our campus we are upgrading some screens and not others, so some screens are listed at 1360x768, and others at 1920x1080. Using the HP Chromebox (not Asus), the resolution is not changeable, and the user gets whatever the default or native resolution of the screen is. On some, this is 1080p, on others it is the legacy WXGA or 1360x768.

We have a collection of images that show events which our communications department uploads at one resolution. I have tried to put these in a single presentation, and use the Presentation widget/content (with its ID) to copy this into two separate presentations, one at 1360x768 and the other at 1920x1080. However, on the smaller presentation, the image will not re-size automatically and comes in at its "larger" size.

Ex: An image is uploaded to a 100x100 presentation at 100x100 pixels with a unique ID (call it "p1")
  • In the 1080p presentation, the p1 presentation is inserted, and the image displays properly at 100x100px.
  • In the 1360x768 presentation, p1 comes in still at 100x100px, which, because of the smaller resolution, is cut-off in its bounding box or is on top of other elements in the presentation.
The important part about this is that the p1 presentation has specific Timeline controls: image 1 will show from 12/5-12/7, image 2 will show from 12/5-12/10, etc. I don't want our communications department to have to upload every single image and associated timeline twice.

What is the solution here?

Here is the image truncated at 1360 being pulled in from p1:

Here is the image displayed correctly at 1920x1080:

Samuel,

I'm going to look into this and get back to you when I have some ideas.

Samuel,

If I am understanding this correctly, I think you will need to create individual presentations for each resolution. The image placeholders themselves are responsive and scalable, however, when put into a presentation format they lose their responsiveness and that is where you are seeing the issue. There shouldn't be a need to recreate the images at individual resolutions.

I do have some feelers out to other Rise employees to see their ideas, but I didn't want to leave you hanging in the meantime.

Samuel,

Just an idea, are the images used in the presentations set to scale to fit?

Yeah - I think the issue is that when one pulls a presentation into a presentation, they lose that scalability. That would be a nice feature to add for the future.

Samuel,

I will note this in our bugs list, thanks for your input!

Yeah, it would be great if presentations could be scaled on the displays so you dont have to create two different ones. This is making it extremely hard to update content when we have different res displays.

Thanks for that feedback Justin. If we make any changes to this functionality, we will be sure to update everyone in our community.

Thanks!
