Need help with caching issue, large amount of Flash content

We display dorm resource use on our digital signage which pulls widgets as an iframe from a website that uses Adobe Flash extensively. Even with the updates to ChromeOS, the content will still run, but causes significant lag in the presentations, sometimes not even showing at all.

What we have done as a workaround is to load a few dorms' widgets on Monday, some on Tuesday, etc. using the Timeline feature. I first tried this using the playlist inside a placeholder, but to my dismay upon inspecting the previewed presentation, I found that all of the widgets are being loaded & cached (as iframes), even the ones that aren't scheduled to be displayed that day.

Is there any way around this? I even tried doing two different Presentations in one Schedule, and both Presentations loaded in the background (even though one wasn't scheduled to run that day).

Thanks.

Samuel,

Our content team is out today. I have pinned this conversation for review and I will bring it up with them tomorrow.

Hi Samuel,

Can you try putting the Presentation on a Display instead of previewing it? Preview will ignore your timeline settings.

Thx.

Donna,

We tried this and experienced significant lag.

Can you explain to me how Rise caches content? If a placeholder is not scheduled for a certain day, will the Player load it regardless?

Samuel,

Have you been able to load less intensive presentations without any lag? This could be caused by a lack of processing power on the media player. You may also want to look at converting your flash files to another format, as flash is not a format that we support.

Blake - your original comment indicated that the entire presentation is cached, regardless of Timeline settings. Can you confirm this? How does Rise cache content?

Yes, if we reduce the number of Flash objects it does appear to be better. The content is not ours and we are simply using an iframe to pull it in.

We are using HP Chromeboxes which so far have been pretty reliable.

Samuel,

I have been unable to test your presentation to see if all items are cached. Our Apps developers are currently out of the office for the weekend, so I am unable to confirm proper functionality with them.

Flash is not a supported plugin, so I cannot troubleshoot the content specifically. In this case, I would suggest you create a different presentation for each day, and load them through the Schedules Application rather than through a placeholder for the time being.
