Moving existing storage files into folders

Having uploaded a number of images to the storage location on the Rise network I would now like to organise those files into folders... I can see how to do this for new files but it doesn't seem to be possible for existing files - is there any way to do this other than deleting and re-uploading probably requiring all presentations to be updated?

Hi Shaun,

At this time only new uploads have the ability to go into a folder.  We will be introducing functionality to move files to and from folders at a later date.

Thanks.

Agreed.  Just purchased storage - the first thing I've ever purchased from Rise - and am shocked something as basic as moving a file to a folder and renaming files is not possible.

Vincent,

We're actually in the planning phases of changes to the storage UI. You can keep up to date with our announcement in the community updates section.

+1 for this feature request. Not sure why this hasn't received more attention, seems like a glaring omission.

RVS is great as a paid service, and it's really convenient to not have to host and link files externally. When it comes to the management interface, however, it seems a little odd that there aren't any management options besides deleting. Copy, move and rename would be nice.

Explain it like this to whoever you need to lobby to allocate the resources to get storage beyond the Minimum Viable Product stage:

Storage is the threshold by which a user converts into a paying customer.

What you should have is an absolutely killer HTML5 drag and drop storage solution -- because you have to take advantage of the confirmation bias the recent converts to realm of paying customers tend toward the second they decide to take the plunge.

You've got people getting over the mental hump of shelling out for a free service (and a very nice free service at that, much appreciated) and by lacking simple features that folks have come to expect as standard in a remote storage folder,  you are making a giant mistake from a business standpoint:  You are giving those recently converted customers some serious cause for pause to continue down the path of paying for additional features.

Print this up and recite it to whoever allocates resources to developing features.   If they don't understand it, then put it on the desk of whoever that person answers to.

We don't do anything crazy - yet - so just the ability to organize would be the best for us. Especially since we have so many cooks just haphazardly placing everything. Organization is key!

1. Ability to move items into different folders
2. Ability to change order of items in a folder, as order affects photo/video folder widgets
3. Thank you.

I feel kind of burned having subscribed to storage only to find this lack of functionality. I didn't really use my free trial because I didn't want to get invested in something that I might not need or get approval to purchase. Therefore, I didn't really know what I was buying. I guess that's my fault. However, for cloud storage, being able to move and rename files seems quite fundamental. Fortunately, I discovered the shortfall before I had uploaded more than one file. Now I just have to plan ahead for my file structure. Maybe we can look forward to next Christmas?

Media,

This is certainly on the to do list, but it's further out there than some of our current priorities. Rest assured it is something that we are planning to tackle, and we will notify everyone in the community when we introduce this functionality.

Thanks!

Seeing as how its been 2yrs since first request, I would love to see some movement on this.  Please move this up in your priority list as we are now paying customers

West High,

We hear you loud and clear, and we will be sure to let everyone know when this is being worked on. We're just dealing with some other priorities at this time.

Thanks!
I can't understand how its been 2 years since this problem has been addressed and still no solution to be able to move files into folders. This is a basic function for any type of online storage especially one that I am paying for. Is there any type of timeline on when this will be fixed?

Argo,

Unfortunately I don't have a timeline, and for that I apologize. Once we do introduce this functionality, we will let everyone know.

Pretty please with cream and sugar on top! I just finished training a customer and was chagrined and embarrassed to have to tell them they can't move files within their new RiseVision Storage account. Please shout it from the roof tops when you add this feature. Thanks!

lol..thanks for that additional push Doug :) I have changed this to an Idea so other users can vote for it as well so we know how many users are looking for this functionality.

We'll be sure to let everyone know when this is introduced!

Very kind of you to offer! Our Apps team is hard at work on several additions and improvements to the Rise Vision User experience, and we hope to announce features like this in the community in the upcoming months.

Thanks!
