Match Google Slides timing with widgets in same display area?

Is there a way to synchronize or control Google Slides so that the slides do not advance when the show is not visible?

I am trying to show a bunch of different things on a digital sign, and I would like to layer objects so that for a while I am showing Google Slides, and for a while I am showing other information sources.

However, it seems that when the Google Slides are hidden, they keep right on "playing" in the background.

So I cannot create a 5 slide presentation with 5 second timing, and then in RV time the slides to play for 25 seconds and then switch to showing say a News / Weather widget for 5 seconds, and go back to the slides which again start from the top.

Instead, I show the Google slides animated stack, switch to the news/weather, and when we go back to the Google slides, they've already been playing in the background and now the slides are out of order or we catch the slides in "mid-animated-transition" which looks bizarre.

I do not know how to deal with this directly. But a ridiculous yet possibly workable solution I came up with, is....

* Make a bunch of Google slideshows each containing a SINGLE slide, and then stack up these slideshows as timed events in the RV placeholder and have the placeholder ITSELF control the Google Slides timing advance rather than letting Google's player try to do it automagically.

Ugh that sounds like a mess to manage.

Dale,

I believe you're correct that slides keep playing in the background even when they're not scheduled in a placeholder to play.

I think the only way around this would be for us to change the way background presentations are presented, which would require some developer involvement. If this is something you're interested in seeing, I would suggest you create an Idea thread to get some eyes on the recommendation.

Any workarounds would likely be similar to the one you mentioned, a bit of a mess. I would like to leave this thread open for other community members to submit their suggestions.

Hi Dale,

Unfortunately I can't think of a way to accomplish this. Your work around would work, but as you mentioned it's time consuming.

I have a few suggestions that may work for you:
  • If you don't want to go the individual slides route you could show the News/ Weather widget for 25 seconds so that your slides come in at the right time.
  • If you are a storage subscriber you could save your slides presentation as images upload all the images to a folder in storage and use the image folder widget to play them through (https://youtu.be/EusyUIM9mJg).
  • You could check out slides.com (http://slides.com/) which might have more customization options. I briefly tried it out a while ago so i'm not 100% sure if they have what you need.
If you have any questions let me know.

Thanks,
Shea
