Little problem with the Web Page Widget

It is not really a "problem" per se, just a simple inconvenience. Before I complained about the Web Page Widget not catching, but this time it was 'catching' perhaps too well. I am working on a jQuery based multi-page directory. After I published some major revision to my server, I was able to see the changes in preview, but not on the display. First, I tried pushing the change thru the editor, but no changes were posted. After that I sent 'Restart Player' signal, but it did nothing as well. Finally, I had manually restart the device to get the changes posted. It should not be like that, right?

Again, it is not a big deal to me as i restart all the players once a day anyways. But perhaps this is something you would like to look at.

On the side I would like to learn how "Unload Web Page when not visible in Presentation (recommended)" is supposed to work. I know, it looks obvious, but I am trying to understand how that would go along with jQuery multi-page website.

I know I will be asked, so yes, it is the newest RV player app for Windows 10 I am using here.

Do you have a data refresh interval set on the Web Page Widget?

Yes, 60min. It is good that you asked, though. Could RV in the future releases introduce 3-6-12 hour refresh intervals.

Hey Darius
Could you email me the link to this and I'll take a look? Also is this on Windows 10?

About the refresh, if you go to where the Web Page Widget is located there is a line in the code where additionalParams and it references the refresh interval. For example, for 60 minutes the parameter is refresh\":\"3600000\" or 3600000 milliseconds (which is 60 minutes). But I will forward that request on to the Content team.

Thank you, I will take a look at it. I certainly do not need this page to refresh every hour.

About the Unload Web Page when not visible in Presentation (recommended) setting, this ensures that the web page is not running in the background while it is not visible (ie when other presentations in the schedule are playing).

Hi Darius,
Regarding the query about the website page not refreshing, I had a mixed result.

I added a html website page in the Web Page Widget with a refresh interval of one minute

I made a change to one of the javascript <script> items in the HTML website page and uploaded it.
The change in the javascript <script> item is reflected both on preview and on the Rise Player

I also did another three more changes to the javascript <script> items and have been able to view this on Rise Player.

What is interesting is that on the first try the change didn’t occur despite the refresh interval. But after I restarted Rise Player and did the next three changes, I was able to have these changes reflect on preview and Rise Player.

Can you start again working with one new presentation and the website page widget with the one minute refresh and let me know? I am also on Win 10. The example I had was this and I changed just one variable which is the size of the logo and the file name of the logo.

Hannah, sorry I was not very specific. My problem was not the scripted content. I had quite a bit different site structure for showing tenants, which I changed simply by rewriting HTML/CSS portion... and that is what did not get updated. To be even more specific, tenants had their own "pages," but I replaced them with "popups." basically I could not get that change posted before I restarted the device.

Hi Darius

I am not able to recreate. I did three tests via the HTML/CSS portion rather than the previous one with the script tag.

The first test was to do a simple HTML change test (adding the h1 tag).
The second and third tests was making changes to the CSS - both in changing an inline css <style> and also changing a style that has been linked to via an external CSS link. For the three tests the Rise Player is refreshing the changes that I have without having to restart.

Just a note though that:
1. When I initially changed over the website page link to a new one -while the Player is running- the additional changes that I had didn’t seem to take effect
2. But, when I was making changes to the website page -after restarting the Player- the additional changes that I was making took effect without having to restart (via the refresh interval).

Thanks!
