We have created a document that goes over settings to change in Linux Ubuntu. Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?...

So I've only read a little bit about Linux Ubuntu. But in general, let's say for high-end presentations, digital signage use only, is it a better OS than windows? I'm curious if it also uses more/less resources than XP or 7.

Sorry Alex, I missed this question! I guess we all did since no one jumped on it :).

Each OS has their pro's and con's. I can't really say one is better than the other, but Linux is DEFINITELY more stable than Windows. I'm not a Linux guy per se, but I had to do some minor tweaking to this Linux machine, and nothing since. It keeps running forever, and it is pretty weak hardware, a lower end Asus EEEBox.

However Linux is not as user friendly or universally accepted as Windows, so when it comes to any drivers or more detailed tweaks, Linux requires expertise that average users don't have, hence why Windows still owns the market :).

So, short answer, both are good, Linux is more stable, Windows is more friendly.

I would add to this: changed on the login screen- to automatically login, and to not ask for password...

Also, hide notifications.

Good points. I'll get those added to the document.

Understandably, this document no longer exists.  Is there a replacement?

I noticed some things so far that could be added to Ubuntu Optimization: msttcorefonts and auto-login.  The latter would be especially helpful because the document has you set a daily reboot.

This might be beyond the scope of this particular document, but how do you automatically run Player upon login in Ubuntu/Linux?

Media Manager,

Rise Linux Player prompts at installation if you would like to run the player at startup.
