Issue with video item not rendering on Chromebox

Staring this week, we have various strange behavior with the  video item not playing correctly for newest pages. It makes me believe that there is something wrong with the cache.
My Chrome version is 44 and RisePlayer is 15.10.7.9312. I notice the same behavior also on Chrome0S 45.

In fact, newer page (created by this week) with  the Video item don't start the video. And where is is very strange is that if I create a new page and copy/paste the content from the old one to the new one and start this new page in a schedule, the video gets played. If after, I reschedule the old page, it works. Just like if the video was not able to load in cache from the first page. .

Hard for me to explain because I've not yet fully understood. Note that the videos are coming from an external repository (not RiseVision one).

Thierry,

Can you try the Video Widget instead and let me know the results?

Hello Blake,
Video gadget works. However, it is not a real options because the footprint on the network is too heavy knowing the video gadget does not cache video stored out of the Rise storage.
Very strange that copy/pasting the content of a non-working page to a new one makes it working.
To be noted also that in preview mode, all works well.

Thierry,

Can you please provide me a preview of the presentation so I can try to replicate locally?

Hello blake,
So many thank.
Here is an example. Sometimes tthe video comes and sometimes does not show up.
If I stop/restart the Chromebox, it arrives a moment when the video shows up.
Thanks.

Thierry,

Thanks, I don't have a Chromebox at my disposal today, but I will have access to one tomorrow. I will let you know what I find.

Thierry,

I just took a look at your presentation everything looks fine except for the video format. Would you be willing to convert the .mp4 video to .webm? I would like to know if that makes any difference at all.

Thanks Blake for your effort.
The page is indeed not that complex.
I will try to get it converted in WebM but I will need to upload in another repository. Indeed, our DAM (Digital Asset management) is not WebM compliant.
We had a lot of discussion about the support of WebM but since this DAM is used to support all the Internet/Intranet Web sites of the Company and we need a perfect compatibility across the browsers, it was rejected so far.

But your idea is excellent. I will try also to copy simply the MP4 to my personal web site. Maybe something is wrong in the chain.
Best regards.
Thierry

Hello Blake,

I've reinstall the Chromebox from scratch using an USB key and now, all is played correctly.
I had not USB key with an older Chrome version. So, Chrome 45 was installed.
THis is not for me a good workaround because if I may not consider to reinstall a Chromebox each time there is such problem.

I've the feeling that something was wrong with the cache preventing the content to be played.
Is there a way to clean-up the Chrome internal cache for the kiosk process. I think the Chrome internal cache is permanent over the reboots. Would it be somehow a mismatch with the RisePlayer own cache and the one from Chrome ?

Thierry,

I can't say that we've heard of this issue before. It sounds like this was an issue with your ChromeOS installation. Have you seen this on any other devices?

Yes indeed Blake. I got this on several Chromeboxes and such automatically updated to Chrome 45 but some that are domain managed and blocked to v44 were affected as well.
Very hard to understand what happened.

Thierry,

In response to an earlier comment in this thread, I have been informed that the Video Widget is slated for update. Our developers are looking at adding functionality of caching non-Rise Storage media to Rise Cache. I hope this helps!
