Issue with the new Traffic Gadget from Computer Aid Inc.?

It sounds like the Traffic Gadget provided by Computer Aid behaves strangely.
My existing pages are running correctly and if I use COP/Paste of a placeholder to another presentation either.

However, adding the gadget from scratch in a new page allows me to access the configuration and to save correctly. Howerer, both in preview and on the display, the gadget does not show up.

Any clue? For me, sounds like something has been changed in the gadget configuration altering the parameters and thus preventing the correct presentation rendering.

Thierry
PS. I'm sending a mail to Computer Aid support

Sorry to hear that you guys are having this issue. I believe the Computer Aid folks are out for a North American holiday today, but I will get this thread over to their support team.

Yesterday was indeed a holiday for us so I apologize for the delay in this response. We will begin investigating immediately, but if it is possible for you to respond to this thread, or send us an email at rvsupport@compaid.com if you are experiencing this issue that would be a big help.

We have not made any recent changes to this widget, and it sounds like the widget itself is still working on some presentations. Any additional information that you can provide will help me better understand and isolate the root cause of the issue.

Good news. We have just pushed an update to the Traffic Map Widget that should resolve this issue. It seems that something in the backend that was being used to convert an address to coordinates started returning these values as strings rather than integers.

I am still investigating what changed to cause this issue in the first place, but I have added additional measures in the widget that will catch this if it happens again and make the necessary conversions to avoid any future errors.

You may have to refresh your displays to avoid loading any previously cached versions of the widget but the problem itself should be resolved now. Please let us know if you continue to experience any difficulties with the Traffic Map Widget.

I tested that gadget and had the same no-show issue if I was placing placeholder with this gadget  over another placeholder (with looping video in particular, have not tested with other types of placeholder). All by itself it worked fine for me.

Hmm, I have not been able to recreate this issue either by layering content or by adding multiple items to a single placeholder. In all cases that I have been able to test the Traffic Map Widget has run as expected. Other content in the display should not have any impact on the Traffic Map Widget, but it is possible that this is a more unique case that I have thus far not been able to test.

Would it be possible for you to email me the preview link for a presentation that is experiencing the error that you are describing (rvsupport@compaid.com). Once I am able to see the problem I should be more able to recreate it and resolve it.

CAISupport,

So, I was gonna make a copy of my presentation with traffic widget for you (I currently have it with custom URL). I am not sure if you issued an update, but the widget seems to be working just fine now.

here are the links:

with custom URL map - http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer.html?type=presentation&id=ee2adcbd-51d3-4467-a18d-5ee6f665e...

with traffic widget - http://preview.risevision.com/Viewer.html?type=presentation&id=d9ccc3ec-e322-4307-9720-4be4df2f5...

I am glad to hear that is it working for you now, and if it does start acting up again please let us know either through the forums or by emailing us directly at rvsupport@compaid.com

It is likely that you were still seeing the issue because a previous version of the widget was being loaded from the cache. It can take a little while after we push an update for all of the displays to start reading from the new version.

Hello all,

I want to thank Computer Aid which send me a reply after the support request I sent to them. I really appreciate they give a support for a free gadget. That is good.

And now .... it is working.
I tested this morning (08:00 CEST Time, Paris time) and it was not working. Now at 20:00, I wanted to test again to give some clues to Computer Aid and it is working.

Don't know what happened. I may have done something wrong but it appears that other RiseVision users reported the same issue as well. So, a temporary issue.

Thanks to all anyway.
Best regards.
